Before the innovation of the icebox, a food-safe was a staple in the American country kitchen.
("Pie-safe," by the way is a more modern term for marketing to your sentimental side.)
Earliest examples appear with German settlers in the Pennsylvania and Ohio regions in the middle-to-late 1700s.
The punched tin panels allow air to circulate but keep pests away so the Friday baking had a fighting chance to last you the week.
Oh, I've wanted to build one of these for years!

This made me laugh.

Once in a while, if I'm particularly proud of a piece, I'll sign my work..
But I've never signed the whole building!

This is Little Moreton Hall in Cheshire, UK.

Milling day!
Not much skill, just brute labor, but sooo satisfying.
Like the lumber equivalent of a makeover monage. 😉

Hey folks,
I know I don't get to post here much anymore, but I am still plugging away at it.
This will piece will be a bit of kitchen storage in the form of an New England pie safe.
Stay tuned for the punched-tin panel doors.

Trying something new on my last piece of the year.
I've put mahogany shoes on my ash legs.

(The actual color of my actual shoes and my actual legs is simply a coincidence.)

A returning patron came to me with this design quite some time ago, but it was several months before I could execute.
I am so pleased to be able to deliver before the holiday.
And I am rather proud to have a repeat customer (it is truly the best barometer for my craft).
Thank you for thinking of my little shop for your beautiful home.

Nice ash.😳🤭😉

Next up: Modern Ash Bench.
Tricky part here is connecting cylinders of similar diameters at right angles.
If I'm not mistaken, these are called "birds mouth joints."
And they are far more finicky to execute than I would have thought.
