Up next… and this one has some stories to tell. 🤎
♥️ We’re currently working on this incredible antique shipping chest, believed to have been built sometime between 1820–1855 — making it nearly 200 years old.
🖤 It still retains its original hand-forged hardware and hand-cut dovetail joinery, along with all the beautiful wear and character that can only come from nearly two centuries of use.
🖤 We’re making a few period-appropriate structural repairs, but otherwise our intention is to preserve this piece as is. No erasing its history here.
🖤 We can make out “New York” on the front of the chest, and we’re hoping that with some careful cleaning, a little more of its story might reveal itself.
🖤 Where has it been? What did it carry? Who did it belong to?
🖤 We may never know — but that’s part of what makes pieces like this so special. After nearly 200 years, we get to be its caretakers for just a little while — preserving its history before it moves on to its next chapter. 🤎
