It’s peaceful & quiet at Folly. Most tourists are gone, and the beach is ours. My kids and I are mentally preparing for school and life back in Swarthmore. We’ll miss this laid back home, and all of our dear Charleston friends. We live in the Forest (Lane...) up north, and can’t watch the stars and shrimp boats from bed, followed by a morning run on the beach when we finally rise. Bus stops are awaiting our return. Now, I am aware that I am filling my shoes with granules of sand for the days when the leaves start to change color, and the clocks go back an hour. It takes distance, and time to forget sand in my shoes. It’s only when I’m far away from here, that it surprises me, cools my toes, and makes me smile.
