This Bassett set has so much potential. I wanted to try and separate these two pieces, use the bottom for a TV stand and the top for an entry curio cabinet. I started on the TV stand first. { the last photo is the set}
This is for my son, Kooper and his wife Marina. They chose the color black, for the TV stand. Benjamin Moore Black 2132-10, in the Advance paint line.
When separating the pieces. We discovered, the top piece of wood on the bottom section, had a little water damage and caused the wood to warp, it could not be used at all. I needed to find a piece of wood for the top. My mom found a coffee table at the DI for $10.00. Which the top, could be used for the TV stand. A slab of wood at Lowe’s was around $199.00 to $250.00 depending on what size you needed. Clearly, the $10.00 coffee table was the choice.
Beanz helped me cut the top to fit the TV stand. We had to do a little resizing to make it work. The top was sanded down and stained in the color Early American from
I cut off the bottom curves on the existing piece, with a jigsaw. It just gives a more modern look without the curves. Kooper and Marina helped sand the piece with 180 grit to prep it for painting. We rolled the first coat and second with foam rollers, which I have done before. This time it left roller marks {NOoooooo}!!!! I loathe, roller marks. So, I ended up hand sanded them out, with 220 grit sandpaper. It actually, ended up giving the piece an imperfectly perfect look of distressing.
Like all pieces of furniture, I restore or reduo there are ups and downs, but I love the process and the things I have learned only help me with the next pieces.
Can you spot other things that got changed on the piece of furniture!
If you have read this far, thank you and maybe I will make a reel🫣😂
