Tony picked these chairs up years ago from someone's old garage, where they had been sitting for decades. One is a standard chair, the other is a rocker. They were in BAD shape, and I honestly wondered why he was even hanging on to them. Personally, I wanted nothing to do with them. Even though they were solid oak, and originally well made, they weren't "on brand" for us, they were filthy, broken, and ugly. But he said he had a vision, and he knew that someday he would make it happen.
And he did! Just look at them now!
These chairs are OLD, and though I am not sure on the exact age, I believe that they are about 100-125 years old - parts of the chairs are anyways. The chairs originally had a leather back and leather, straw filled, spring cushion seats, but unfortunately those parts were not able to be restored, so Tony took to designing and building new seats and backs out of solid oak.
These are classic Morris Chairs - the ancestors of the modern recliner! First marketed in the 1860s by the British firm Morris & Co., they’re famous for their hinged, adjustable backs that let you set the reclining angle using a metal bar and rack system.
We’ve finished these for outdoor use, though they would look just as beautiful inside your home. The seats are a generous 20"x20". They do sit a bit low, so while they are perfectly comfortable as-is, you might choose to add a cushion depending on your preference.
