Lohr has 30 years experience building custom homes and log cabins with his brother Mark in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Michael established Woodlore in January 2010, and relocated to Rockbridge County in January 2013. With our Wood-Mizer LT40 portable sawmill and our slabber, we are capable of milling logs up to 52 inches in diameter. If trees fell in a storm, or you need to take down a dead or di

seased tree, don’t send it to the dump or turn it into mulch...be a tree-hugger instead! Let Woodlore salvage it and you can have a keepsake piece of wood for yourself. Woodlore will also bring our portable sawmill to your property to custom mill your logs for an hourly rate. Woodlore specializes in “rescuing" trees from being mulched, burnt or otherwise destroyed. We turn them into large, beautiful slabs with live edge, which can then be turned into furniture or various home decorations. We have whole logs in stock from which we can custom mill, and we also have cut slabs with live edge in stock for your choosing. We also build custom furniture to meet your needs.

Our Story

Located in Rockbridge County, Virginia, Woodlore LLC is an environmentally conscious business which salvages local trees that have fallen from storms and urbanization. Instead of harvesting trees, we save dead or diseased trees from being processed into non-recyclable products such as firewood, and mill them into natural live edge slabs. We sell live edge slabs and build custom furniture. Some of our featured products include tables, desks, benches, mantels, countertops and bar tops. These custom pieces display the log’s unique spalting, feathering, ambrosia, voids, inclusions, and knots; and may artistically expose nails, bullets, barbed wire and various other articles lodged in the tree. In addition, portable sawmill and slabber services are available for clients who wish to reclaim logs from their property and create their own heirloom furniture. Our mission is to offer new life to dead trees, and thereby provide customers with lovely, organic furnishings. Our philosophy is to care for the environment by crafting furniture with locally salvaged trees.
