We will be closed through Tuesday, May 28th, and will reopen Wednesday, May 29th at 8:30am due to the death of Virgil Ernest Wicker, the founder of Wicker's Furniture in 1971.
Virgil Ernest Wicker, 91 of Richmond, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Virgil was born on August 15, 1927, in Polk County, IA, the son of Ernest and Anna (Foley) Wicker. Hew as united in marriage to Donna Lucille Liles of Richmond on February 25, 1959. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: two sons, Steve (Brenda) Wicker of Wood Heights and Jack (April) Wicker of Excelsior Springs; one daughter, Kathie (Garry) Bush of Richmond; six grandchildren: Tristan (Maggie) Wicker, Jason (Kerri) Wetzel, Nathan Wicker, Rachael Wicker, Eric (Diana) Barker, and Krystal Wicker; and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and twin sisters, Jean Priest and Janice Nightingale.
Virgil proudly served his country in the Army, during the Korean War. He owned and operated Wicker’s Furniture, TV, and Appliance in Excelsior Springs from 1971 until he retired in 2010; the Furniture, TV, and Appliance store was truly family owned and operated. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Gladstone, where he was a dedicated member. Virgil was a hard worker and always supported his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held from10:00 A.M. to service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery, with full Military Honors provided by the United States Army and the Ray Country Veterans.
