The most important one if it is a wood burning stove you need pyroceram glass not tempered. Tempered glass cannot handle the sustained extreme heat a wood stove produces. Getting that wrong is both expensive and dangerous.
For cleaning two of the best solutions are surprisingly simple. Fine ash from the fireplace itself used as a gentle abrasive paste or 0000 steel wool for stubborn buildup. Both work remarkably well on that black combustion residue.

Before you throw it out bring it in. In this video I walk through the complete process of replacing broken picture frame glass from start to finish. Remove the points from the back, measure the opening, cut a new piece of glass to fit, and put it all back together. The whole process takes minutes and your local glass shop can cut the glass to your exact size while you wait.

Two types of safety glass and they break completely differently.
After the wire glass video hit over 400,000 views the most common question in the comments was how does it actually break? So we grabbed a hammer, some slow motion shots, and answered that question properly.
Wire glass holds the broken pieces in place through the mesh. Laminated glass takes multiple hammer strikes to break through and when it finally goes the pieces stay bonded to the plastic interlayer rather than flying apart. The slow motion shots of laminated glass breaking are genuinely something most people have never seen before.
