🖤💚 Strange and unusual… and apparently hiding all over the marketplace. 💚🖤

While walking the floor today, I started noticing a few pieces that were giving off major Beetlejuice vibes. A little quirky. A little spooky. A little “this definitely belongs in a house where the handbook for the recently deceased is required reading.”

From bold black-and-white patterns to delightfully odd décor, these finds feel like they stepped straight out of a waiting room in the afterlife.

The best part? None of this was staged. These are just random treasures that found their way into the same building… proving once again that vintage shopping is wonderfully weird.

We thrifted the chandelier and lava lamps. My husband rewired the entire thing, slapped some spray paint on it to make it all 1 color and voila… I am now the proud owner of a lava lamp chandelier.

💚 Uranium Glass vs. Vaseline Glass — what’s the difference?

We get this question all the time, especially when customers pull out their black lights for an impromptu treasure hunt around the store!

While the terms are often used interchangeably, not all uranium glass is Vaseline glass, and not all uranium glass collectors collect every piece of uranium glass.

✨ Uranium Glass is any glass that contains uranium oxide. It can come in a variety of colors including green, yellow, amber, blue, and even some custard or jadeite-style pieces. Under a UV black light, it typically glows a bright neon green.

✨ Vaseline Glass is actually a type of uranium glass. It gets its name from its resemblance to the pale yellow color of old Vaseline petroleum jelly. If it’s true Vaseline glass, it should have that distinctive yellowish tint and glow under UV light.

But wait… uranium glass isn’t the only thing that glows!

🔦 Manganese glass can glow a softer green under certain UV lights.
🔦 Selenium glass often glows pink or orange.
🔦 Cadmium glass can light up bright orange, red, or yellow.
🔦 Some custard glass, Burmese glass, and slag glass can also surprise collectors under black light.

That’s why customers often bring their own black lights when shopping. Sometimes pieces aren’t marked, and you never know what hidden glow might be waiting to be discovered!

Case in point: this adorable shell trinket dish and bottle. They may not have been labeled, but a quick black light test revealed their secret.

One of my favorite things is when customers stop me for a little show and tell after finding something that glows. There are scientific explanations for why all these different types of glass glow… but as someone who isn’t great at science, I’m sticking with the explanation that it’s magic. 😝✨
