Up for sale are a pair beautiful illustrations depicting two adult buntings Entitled "Euspiza Lusteola”" this giclée depicts a wonderful amount of detail with deep red, yellow and green in the two adult Buntings. In the lower-left plate reads "J. Gould and H.C. Richter del. et litho" while low right reads "Hullmandel & Walton Imp". Resting in an attractive gold wood frame measuring 32”x 28” the print measures roughly 14 3/4x 11inches (matt window).
The artist - John Gould FRS (14 September 1804 – 3 February 1881) was an English ornithologist and bird artist. He published a number of monographs on birds, illustrated by plates that he produced with the assistance of his wife. He has been considered the father of bird study in Australia and the Gould League in Australia is named after him.
