The roots of retail go back many generations in the Treu family. Adam Treu was a Vice President at Macy’s Department Store in New York City. His son Harold L. Treu founded HL Treu Office Supply in downtown Elmira in 1938. At that time there were several locally owned “stationery” stores. The business remained strong under the second-generation leadership of Harold Treu Jr. through the 1990’s. Harold Treu Senior’s younger son Richard also operated his own office supply business in Endicott, NY. Third generation operation began in 1995 when current president Perry Treu took the reigns upon his father’s retirement. Later in that decade HL Treu Office Supply opened it’s second location in Corning, NY which is currently managed by Michael Balch Sr. Thank you for visiting Treu Office Supply's page and considering us as your office supply source. We offer FREE DELIVERY on all our products for our customers in the Elmira, Horseheads, and Big Flats areas Monday through Friday and to the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We include a packaging slip with your delivered order. Catalogs & Flyers:
We provide our customers with two main publications for product selection. The first is our general catalog with over 25,000 items listed in it. This catalog is issued once a year in the fall. PLEASE NOTE: the prices listed in the catalog are the manufacturer's suggested retail price. Our prices are usually less than the list price. The second publication we issue every three months is our sale flyer. Prices in the flyer are good until the date listed on the cover. Most often, new and commonly used products are featured in the flyer. Pricing:
We base our pricing on the cost we pay for items. We offer price breaks if certain quantities are purchased. We sell many items in single units, including pens, envelopes, and file folders as examples. The first price break is usually the box quantity or some other established quantity. After this, the next price break would be at a carton or some other quantity. Typically the rule of thumb is, the more you buy the better the price. See also our rebate program. Our pricing does not differ from company to company. From the individual off the street to the corporate business, all customers receive the same price. We DO NOT match lower prices from other competitors. Quotes:
Since we don't have an easy way for customers to calculate their own price, we strongly suggest that customers contact us for a quote. We keep quotes on file for 30 days. If the quote is not placed as an order within 30 days, the quote expires and is no longer valid. Returns:
Periodically, errors of some kind are made and items need to be returned. Stock items are usually given full credit. Items that are special-ordered have a 30-day return period. In some cases a restocking fee of 10% will be applied to the return. Billing:
We combine all purchases for a month and list them on a statement. Terms are Net 30 days from the date listed. A detailed list of the month's activity and total amount due is shown along with any previous unpaid balances, if they exist. Past due notices are sent to customers who have balances that are 60 days or more past due. Once an account reaches this state, all furniture purchases are on a C. basis until the past due balance is paid.
