Most people never see this part of a bathroom.

They see tile, paint, fixtures — the finished surface.

But every bathroom is really built twice.
Once behind the walls… and once in front of them.

This basement bathroom started by opening the slab and exposing the main line. From there, everything was reworked from the ground up — plumbing laid out with intention, walls framed true, electrical and ventilation placed where they belong, and each system brought together cleanly and deliberately.

By the time drywall goes up, most of the important decisions have already been made.

The homeowners will take it from here and make it their own with flooring, paint, and final touches — but what’s behind these walls is set up to support that for years to come.

There’s a quiet satisfaction in building something right from the ground up — even when most of it will never be seen again.

This one started as a simple shower pan replacement…

Once we opened things up, it became clear the original install was missing some critical steps — no waterproofing behind the tile, minimal thinset coverage, and signs that it likely wouldn’t hold up long term.

We ended up rebuilding the entire shower from the studs out — new valve, proper waterproofing, a supported pan, and new tile throughout.

The niche was custom-built and placed intentionally within the layout so everything lands clean and balanced. Even the shelf height and proportions were planned out to feel right in the space.

A shower should do more than look good — it should be built to last.

Glad we were able to get this one back on solid ground. 🙏

From cast iron tub ➝ custom walk-in shower.
By request, we kept as much of the original 1960 yellow tile as possible — it was set over mud back then and still rock solid. Added a new mud pan with pebble stone floor, cut in a custom niche, and finished it off with frameless glass + updated plumbing.

The layout was bold and outside the box — but that’s the fun part. When vision meets craftsmanship, you get something one-of-a-kind.

One stone at a time… and there were quite a few!

When the mosaic sheets won’t line up right, you make it right — piece by piece.

Every one of these stones was set by hand to get the layout clean and the slope just right. Time-consuming? Absolutely. Worth it? Always.

📌 From Cramped to Clean: A Bathroom Built Right

When I set out to become the bathroom contractor in our area, I knew it couldn’t just be about the pretty tile and fancy finishes. It had to mean understanding the full anatomy of a bathroom — plumbing layout, structural framing, ventilation, electrical — all of it.

This job started as a simple exhaust fan replacement. But when the homeowner joked about the cramped 7’ ceiling, I took a look — and made it happen. I exposed everything, rerouted plumbing (including the upstairs tub drain) to keep the new framing clean, and left only one small soffit. The ceiling gained so much height, there was even an echo for a minute. 😂

From demo to rerouting, framing to finish, the whole room feels brand new. You won’t see most of the work — but that’s the point. A solid bathroom remodel depends just as much on what’s behind the walls as what you see on the surface.
