After a break from regular projects, I returned to the workshop with a fresh challenge—a mid-century modern piece that pushed me to try applied veneer for the very first time. This project demanded careful planning and precision at every step.
For the exterior, I used Makore veneer salvaged from an earlier project because it was the best match available. The natural warmth of Makore perfectly complements the clean lines of mid-century modern design. To add contrast and depth, I crafted the interior from sapele, creating a subtle interplay of tones and textures.
Every detail—measuring, cutting, aligning the veneer—was a learning experience that tested my skills and attention to detail. The piece is a blend of classic design and modern craftsmanship, proving that with careful work and the right materials, stunning results can be achieved even when venturing into new techniques.
This project isn’t just another build; it’s a testament to evolving as a craftsman and pushing creative boundaries to produce something both functional and beautiful.
