After a break from regular projects, I returned to the workshop with a fresh challenge—a mid-century modern piece that pushed me to try applied veneer for the very first time. This project demanded careful planning and precision at every step.

For the exterior, I used Makore veneer salvaged from an earlier project because it was the best match available. The natural warmth of Makore perfectly complements the clean lines of mid-century modern design. To add contrast and depth, I crafted the interior from sapele, creating a subtle interplay of tones and textures.

Every detail—measuring, cutting, aligning the veneer—was a learning experience that tested my skills and attention to detail. The piece is a blend of classic design and modern craftsmanship, proving that with careful work and the right materials, stunning results can be achieved even when venturing into new techniques.

This project isn’t just another build; it’s a testament to evolving as a craftsman and pushing creative boundaries to produce something both functional and beautiful.

It feels wonderful to be back in my workshop after a challenging few years. I'm grateful to have overcome a personal neurological health issue and am feeling stronger than ever. During this time, my dear mother began her journey with dementia. My wife and I devoted ourselves to her care, prioritizing her comfort and dignity above all else. As a one-man shop, this meant stepping away from my woodworking.

Mom has since passed, and we miss her deeply. However, her memory inspires me as I find solace and renewed energy in my craft. I'm now back to creating custom kitchen cabinetry and furniture with passion and dedication. It's a joy to be working with wood again, and I look forward to reconnecting with the community and crafting beautiful, lasting pieces for your homes. Thank you for your understanding, and I'm excited for this new chapter.

Hopefully I'm doing this right. For the past few years, my health has seemed to slowly have been deteriorating. Somewhere around 2018, things started accelerating. I had to step away from work completely in late spring 2022. Testing and Dr visits came back normal.

Last summer was the peak of experiencing severe tremors, blackouts, seizures...

Luckily for me, one of my long time Drs sent me to Massachusetts General where I was diagnosed with FND, Functional Neurological Disorder. Very treatable through a triple therapy program, so I am fortunate.

I will be up front and honest that part of the disorder is a really bad case of mental stress, anxiety, and panic attacks. Physical exertion adds to the endless fatigue, and sometimes it face plants me on the ground. With the frequency of my symptoms, I felt it would be irresponsible of me to subject a client to this, especially on site. I stepped away until I could get pointed in the right direction.

So I have decided to change my business structure so that it is less custom and on site, to more of a shop/woodworking studio. I will be making woodworking, furniture, and bathroom vanity items for sale, of custom quality of course. These will be listed soon, as well as a new website and new business name!

A few weeks ago, I made Dorilyn a few charcuterie boards for the upcoming party we were hosting. The boards were to display foods to be served, but they could easily be used for cutting.

After we posted on Facebook the photos, I received requests for orders of boards. Quite a few of them really. So, I figured it would be easier to make a run of them in case anyone else was looking for some.

I made some Sugar Maple ones to start for sale (yes, for Black Friday), but it certainly is not limited to just Maple. If you check the Shop part of my page, I will constantly put up new products for sale. Different shapes and sizes, and materials. If you are looking for something specific, just send me a message from my page here, and we can work something out.
