A recent small project. A recipe box, to hold indexed recipe cards. Simple and basic box design, using Quarter sawn White Oak, Padauk for the top and bottom, and Wenge for the handle and corner accents. Oil and beeswax finish made the grain and colors stand out!

This is my latest project that I call The Jade Brick Bowl. I saw this on the net, and I thought to give it a go. I chose Quarter Sawn White Oak for the bricks, and mixed my own color for the resin. I spent a lot of time planning/thinking this one out. It took a LOT more resin than I originally thought. It came to over $100 worth. Once out of the pressure pot, the turning process began. It was quite messy. Much of that expensive resin ended up on the floor! Finally, the finish project emerged. Sanded through the grits to 1500 nice and smooth, then Odies Oil and paste wax finish made it shine. I particularly like the way the light goes through the resin. Depending on the angle, it looks quite stunning! The photos and final video show the progression.

This project has been on the back burner for a while, but I saw a photo of one of these recently, and it reminded me to get to it! I utilized scrap wood left over from a table build I recently completed. Wenge, Zebrawood, and Cherry. Using the photo for a guideline, I came up with the sizing, and the pivot mechanism design. A few days later, it was complete. Oil and Beeswax finish. I used an old lag screw I had laying around for the spike, after grinding most of the threads off it. A toteable item that will join us to the next winery visit.

I have skills that cover many different crafts and talents. One is furniture repair. I was asked to repair this chair with a damaged leg. In a short time, you would never have known it was broken.

This latest project took 3 months from start to finish.. Basic design came from the client who had a specific place for it. So keeping within the dimensions provided, we came up witha fairly basic design, but which incorporated 3 wood species. The top and shelves are top grade Eastern Cherry, the accent strip on the top is Zebrawood. The legs are Wenge, and the hprizontal slats are Zebrawood. Materials for this project were costly, but I like the contrast of the 3 once finish was applied. It goes nicely with other pieces he has. Finish is 5 coats of Tried and True Varnish Oil, buffed between coats, with a final coat of buffed Beeswax. The grain on the Cherry top really popped after the finishing! Piece measures 19 1/2" x 80" x 33". It weighs a lot!

I've been idle for a while, recovering from foot surgery. Sitting in a chair, staring at my fireplace, for days. We have lived in this house for 4 years, but after this time of recovery, I found the fireplace we had to be ugly, and needed a new look. Now that I am a bit more mobile, but using a walking boot, I decided to tap into my creative juices. The trim scheme in our house is nothing fancy, so the design I picked needed to reflect that. Between me and my wife, we chose a shaker style surround. The rest was up to me. The photos show the process, which took 3 weeks of hobbling and working with as much scrap material as possible. The last part of the project was a bit complicated. I had originally figured that the recessed areas of the shaker panels to be white like the trim scheme in the house. Once there, it looked nice, but boring. I decided to try my hand at feaux painting.... Trying to replicate the granite tile surrounding the firebox. 8 layers later, I said it was good. Capping it all off, I added 3 trinity knots, which were a focal point of our wedding, and have special meaning to us. Sorry for the novel, but now I can look at my fireplace and enjoy it!
