Rise and Shine Furniture Revival

Being a full-time mom of three crazy boys, a part-time RDH and any-spare-time-I-have custom furniture refinisher has taken its toll on this mama.

I’m putting custom orders on the very back burner until the twins head off to kindergarten in 2023 (it’ll be here before we know it!). You may see some just for fun projects or this-is-my-therapy posts…other than that it’ll be quiet over here.

I thank all of you that have kept me tremendously busy over these past two years. I learned a ton as I went along (and said every curse word in the book). Look for me in the fall of 2023…I’ll be crying over my grown babies and will need something to occupy my time. 🙃

Handmade by great grandad…forever a keepsake. Petite but sturdy and so deserving of a makeover!

Sanded away several coats of old paint, added a pop of color to the interior and exterior and exchanged muted pulls for a little bling! 💎

These girls were thirsty and knicked up from years of use (super jealous of the vanity situation here). A little elbow grease and Restor A Finish in Dark Walnut worked wonderfully on these pieces. Sanding and stripping isn’t always an absolute must. A little love can sometimes be just. the. trick.

The desk and chair were family pieces passed down from one generation to the next (and next). A hardware and upholstery update made this piece more modern but still in line with her classic structure. It’s like she’s glowing…we all want some of that!

This French Provincial set lived in Great Grandmother’s home for quite sometime. Like decades amount of time. These ladies were more than ready for a new look and a new home…great granddaughter’s room! 🤍

Several layers of oil primer hid the dark gold and burnt vanilla (?) facade. Sprayed these beauties with Sherwin-Williams Pure White and added a gold luster to her engraving with the help of Valspar Mixing Glaze and Krylon Gold Leaf Metallic paint. Original hardware was all present and begged for a glam look. Sealed with five (!) layers of Minwax Polycrylic in Clear Satin.

Had these old gals stored in the shop for quite sometime before we found a spot to put them…the beach! All thrifted finds that just needed a good, solid makeover. New paint and hardware created a calm and soothing vibe…just like the vacation home they now live in!

The nightstands are distant cousins…different body lines but same type of drawer style…matchy, matchy isn’t always a must. The low boy was recreated into an entertainment center with hidden cutouts to house electronics. ✨

Classic white never goes out of style! Dad has hauled this petite dresser around for most of his life and decided it was time for a change. His sweet little girl is now the new proud owner in her big girl room. Upon pick-up, she met me at the door singing into her Frozen microphone. ❄️ 🤍 ❄️

I rearranged the drawers and changed out the hardware to match her sweet demeanor. Several coats of primer sealed in her dark exterior and warded of any bleed-thru.

This two ton table and bench was ready for a change. Crafted locally and built to stand the test of time, kids, and many family meals. Her topcoat had become a little sticky and gaps between her boards were catching crumbs and glitter 🤣

Time for a do-over! Multiple layers of wood filler and a thorough sanding sealed all her gaps. Primer, paint and a heavy duty topcoat have added many more years to her life! 🤍

Topcoat: Varathane Crystal Clear Gloss Water-Based Polyurethane

*I highly recommend using a water-based polyurethane when painting over white furniture; oil-based will give off an amber hue and will yellow over time.
