I’m kicking off a woodworking auction tomorrow at noon! All proceeds support my work with Project Renew. I’ll be uploading items throughout the day tomorrow, and the auction runs until 9pm on Wednesday.

There are some really special pieces available. I milled most of the wood myself (ask me where the tree grew!), and I’ve even got some cutting boards made from 130-year-old beams from a Colorado mine!

You don’t even have to be local. I’ll ship it to you!

I’m fascinated with open-source design concepts. I love the idea of hyper-localized manufacturing, where pieces can be printed, carved, or built in the communities (or by the eventual owners themselves) where they will be used.

I am also a serial prototypist— my shop can quickly end up a graveyard of one-off projects that taught me something through the design/build process or were cool, but weren’t viable for a larger-scale roll-out. (Or that just ended up being a bust!)

This is my take on the “Layer Chair” by . I used 3/4” MDF, which has needed some cross-bracing on the legs, but otherwise has held up really well! I’ve been meaning to paint it for a long time—I’m thinking I’ll start with navy on the outer layer, and paint each layer a slightly lighter shade to fade to white at the middle for a cool ombré effect.

It can be quite magical cutting into an aged, gray log to find bright and beautiful colors inside!

Hi friends! We need your help (and you’ll get a SWEET DEAL, too!). We are trying to get our act together on our Etsy shop and Facebook storefront. We just took a huge leap toward with the addition of 3D carving capabilities in the woodshop, so we are itching to expand our catalog.

If any of our fabulous friends want to be guinea pigs for some of the examples of things we can do now (see photos), we will do it for half price!

You will help us make some really cool new stuff, AND create some online listings with photos of actual things. 🙂

Latest cabin bed iteration has been delivered! Our friends Steve and Emily were super generous (and competitive!) at our recent Nexus International silent auction fundraiser. They won a cabin bed, and told us about their need to accommodate their 4-year-old and their 2-year-old within the same floor footprint. And they're welcoming a new baby next month!

We set them up with this bed where the top bed is a twin, the bottom bed is toddler-sized, and can be replaced easily with an additional twin as the kids grow. The toddler bed can be passed on to kiddo #3. Maybe someday big brother will allow the littler ones to sleep in the "penthouse"! ;)
