As Sam Cooke’s “You Send Me” climbed the charts in late 1957, this Drexel “Projection” china hutch was rolling out of the factory floor. Manufactured in November of 1957, it was purchased new early the following year in Blytheville, Arkansas, where it began a nearly 70-year life in the same family.
Decades later, in 1993, the owners loved it enough to bring it along for their move to Hot Springs Village. Now it’s ready for its next chapter. Where will it go now?
Designed by John Van Koert for Drexel, the Projection line is one of the defining American modern furniture collections of the late 1950s. The sculpted edges, floating cabinet design, tapered legs, and signature brushed aluminum pulls give it that unmistakable mix of sophistication and warmth that Drexel mastered so well.
The glass front upper cabinet is perfect for display while the lower storage keeps everything tucked away cleanly. Beautiful walnut grain throughout with rich color that only comes from decades of careful use and preservation.
Still carrying its original unaltered finish, this piece shows only minimal love bumps from nearly 70 years of admiration and everyday life.
