Today is Flag Day, a day which commemorates the Continental Congress' resolution on June 14, 1777 that established the design of the first national flag. Since then, generations of Americans have celebrated the flag as a symbol of our God-given freedoms and God-blessed nation.

The first Flag Day celebration occurred in Wisconsin in 1885, when a schoolteacher and his students observed June 14th as "Flag Birthday," or "Flag Day." This idea inspired others around the nation to copy the practice and the celebrations grew in scope and number. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation calling for the national celebration of Flag Day, establishing it as a national event.

Today is also the birthday for the United States Army! The Army was created by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775.

George Washington, elected as Commander-in-Chief on June 15, 1775, issued several orders for the military throughout the War for Independence. One order stated:

The blessings and protection of Heaven are at all times necessary...The General hopes and trusts that every officer and man will endeavor [to] live and act as becomes a Christian Soldier defending the dearest rights and liberties of his country.

The Army has given much for its country since then. Frederick Douglass reminded the nation:

We must never forget that the loyal soldiers who rest beneath this sod flung themselves between the nation and the nation's destroyers....If the Star-Spangled Banner floats only over free American citizens in every quarter of the land...we are indebted to the unselfish devotion of the noble army who rest in these honored graves all around us.

Today, let's celebrate the American Army and all our military who so ably defend our flag and our God-given freedoms!

Attention Denton Residents!

In light of the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, emergency management professionals in collaboration with TxDOT forecast an additional million people darkening the roadways into the DFW area for the event. We offer three pieces of advice to brighten your eclipse experience:

Fuel Up Early: Aim to fill your gas tank this week. This will help you avoid the rush for fuel over the weekend and on Monday.

Steer clear of I-35: If possible, avoid I-35 like the plague if you can starting this weekend through Monday. TxDOT estimates up to five times the normal traffic on I-35 through Denton when the eclipse is over.

Cell Service Disruptions: Cell service disruptions may be possible due to the amount of extra folks in the area, so plan accordingly!

By planning ahead and having a little extra patience, we hope you have a sunny disposition while enjoying the eclipse Monday afternoon!

A recent satisfied customer!!

Hello, Well, the furniture is in our living room, and it has turned out to be the perfect pieces and sizes for that particular room. I had thought to buy a different style, but now I know it would not have properly fit in the space.

We are praising God that his wisdom is greater than ours, and that it didn’t cost us nearly as much cash as the other set would have!

I’m so grateful for Restored Glory and the treasures we find in that hidden place.

Now I’m off to the store to try and match colors for accessories 😁🤩. Blessings to you…
