Origins of Bok Woodworks:
Bok Woodworks is a small business that I decided to start up in April. In March, due to the coronavirus pandemic, I was back home and finishing up my college degree online. I was also working 40 hours a week as a cook at a local restaurant to make money for my needs. After a few weeks of being home, the world took an even more drastic turn. Unemployment was at an all time

high and I had lost all my hours at the restaurant for nearly a month. It turns out that my girlfriends parents wanted a table made for their Big Green Egg. I told them that I would give it a shot and gave them a price. They accepted the offer and I made them a table. It turned out a lot nicer than I ever thought it would. I couldn’t believe what I had made with my own hands. I decided to post it on Facebook and my inbox was flooded with people interested in buying a table for themselves. I was so proud of myself for being able to generate my own income. Not only was I able to use woodworking as something to make money when I needed it the most, I also fell in love with the process of taking a couple pieces of wood and transforming it into something beautiful that could serve a purpose in someone else’s life. Although we are in the most uncertain times in our generations life time, God used this pandemic to help me find a passion and a purpose in life. Although it sounds cliché, I believe that everything happens for a reason. No matter how hard things ever get in life, always try to make the best out of the situation that God has put you in. He only puts you through hard times today so that you can be a better person tomorrow. I’m so grateful for the opportunities I have been given in the past couple of months, and I am so excited for the future of this business. Thank you all for the support❤️

Here’s the finished product of my latest project — Black walnut live edge shelves and cabinet top

This project was so much fun and I learned a lot along the way. So grateful for all of the opportunities that have come my way this year! I can’t wait to see what else 2021 has in store.

Here’s a quick little project that me and my mom did today! This used to be just a black book case from Goodwill. We added some pine boards to the top, stained them with various colored stains, and painted the bottom with chalk paint. It turned out really cool looking!

Here’s a modern style desk I recently made for my cousin! I got inspiration from to make this desk. I made this desk out of one sheet of 3/4 inch red oak plywood and used 3/4 inch thick red oak to edge band the front.

This was my first time edge banding, and it was a little daunting! Edge banding is where you glue hardwood or veneer to the edges of plywood to hide the exposed plywood edges.

I faced a challenge while doing this. I was a little off on the measurements of the legs, so I had to do 1/2 inch edge banding instead of 1/4 inch edge banding. The finished product turned out to look awesome!

The finished product! Love the way this stain came out. It is Minwax Classic Grey, and might be one of my favorite stains now. I will try to get some better pics once the table gets to its rightful owner, but for now, here’s some pictures of it in my driveway😂

Got a little dusty today from belt sanding the top of this sofa table today... but my mommas got a washing machine.

Here’s a video of me squaring off one of the sides of the sofa table. I squared both sides off so the length of the table is 69 inches.

I used a piece of wood that I know has a perfectly square side to use as a track for my circular saw so that the cut is near perfect!

This project is coming along. Stay tuned for more updates. Next step: belt sand and square off the legs🦵🏻

My favorite table that I’ve made so far! A 6 foot round pedestal table. This table sure was a challenge to make since I’ve never made anything this big before, but the best way to learn how to do something is to just go for it! You will learn through trial and error, and you might just be surprised on how good it turns out if you take that leap of faith. Sure, it has its flaws (although, I’m sure only I can see them), but that’s the beauty of handmade custom furniture.
