I'm Leah a decorative furniture painter, DIY enthusiast, home designer, creative entrepreneur, and lover of an aged piece of furniture with an even better story behind it. I began Leah Noell Design out of my passion for creative home design. I moved into my first house at a very young age with little room in the budget to decorate. I used my creative ability to create a beautiful home and continue

to find new ways to decorate on a dime. My passion lies in finding and restoring dated furniture by transforming it into a signature piece you will utilize in your home or business. Growing up I experienced my parents and grandparents collecting antiques and refinishing each piece to accommodate their personal styles. My personal journey refinishing furniture began when my in-laws down-sized their home and called my husband to dispose of their dated six piece wood dining set by BURNING IT!!! Remembering all the good times we had sitting around that table, I quickly instructed him to deliver it to our garage. Then I called my dad over and together we transformed their dated piece into a farmhouse style treasure that my family continues to enjoy meals on every evening. When I started this venture, it became apparent that so many of us have sentimental furniture passed down to us that we store in our basements, garages, and attics because it does not match our home décor. I truly believe that the best way we can honor our past generations is to bring some life into that old table, cabinet, buffet, or whatever it is and update it to be loved in our homes every day. If you are in the Northwest Indiana/Chicago land area I would love to help you find a new finish to your generational pieces or give your décor you’ve grown tired of a new life. Let me help you discover a new statement piece for your home.

What was I creating back in 2019? I’m so glad you asked. Resin-topped furniture was at the top of my list! I absolutely loved making these one-of-a-kind pieces, and this teal beauty was one of my favorites.

It eventually found its forever home with my good friends, Jessica and Rich. Back then, Rich spent plenty of time at our house keeping my Audi on the road…because if you’ve ever owned one, you know they’re always keeping you on your toes! 😆 Or in your walking shoes 😒.

The moment he saw this piece, they knew it was coming home with them.

Looking back, it’s fun to see how my style has evolved over the years. Who remembers the resin furniture phase? 🙋‍♀️

I still do resin tops from time to time. They usually turn out beautifully but they are a lot of time and patience!

This was an unexpected quick flip for my daughter’s friend! In this video I talk about how to use Howard’s Restore-a-finish which is my favorite way to restore an original wood finish!

Just a few of the pieces we picked up this past week! I thought you may enjoy some of the in the raw moment photos in the life of a furniture artist.

We’ve moved more furniture this weekend than we have in a loooonng time! We also moved my nieces furniture out of her old home in the middle of it all! Yesterday we drove 250 miles just helping family move tables, sofas, mattresses, etc, etc you get it.

There’s several more antique pieces we picked up for my inventory than I have pictured here. It’s been one of those survival weeks where I’ve just been moving through from task to task and the furniture has been a drop and run type of situation. Literally, stop 🛑, unload an armoire, and run to the next thing. I still have pieces on my trailer that I need to find space for tonight!

Anyway, I’ve been taking custom work lately so if you see something here you have to have, let me know! I’m booking customs for September now.

The large rounded hutch is reserved for a Day of the Dead alter but it has not been claimed yet. So if you’re looking for an ofrenda I would be happy to do it as a custom. Just send me a message for a quote.

Now, we are off to a family party again today and I’m happy to be sitting in the backseat of the truck 🛻 writing this before I take a quick nap 😴 before we get there! Enjoy your Sunday friends!!

This was my warm up project this past week! I like to have a little table or something insignificant that I can literally “Warm Up” with before I start working on my real projects.

Currently I’ve been learning about folk art and this table has held plants 🪴 on my porch for years. I decided it would be the perfect candidate for a warm up project to match some of my planters!

Hello my painting friends! I’ve been working on this piece here and made a 6 minute tutorial on how to use texture medium.

It’s probably going to be a couple weeks before this gal is finished, but I’ll keep you updated on the progress in my stories! For now, enjoy this little tutorial!

I’m heading out for a beach walk tonight and it reminded me of this piece!! Oh how I love a good color blend 😍.
