I have looked at the inbox and WOW!!! Such nice comments and all of the pictures of sofas from the 1950's and 1960's. Designs I never knew were made, also surprisingly in good shape. Please post them on this page for all to see!

Sadly we have been out Business for many years...

My name is David Scheider, the grandson of Charles Schneider. I worked for quality control as a kid. Sadly the company closed and had to lay of over 70 very hard working and loyal employees. Mr Al S. and myself broke the news to our team in the loft. It is one of the the most shameful feelings of my life. I will say, we did stick it out for many years in the red. We were the last furniture company in the state. I know mr Al the vice president took a pay cut. I quit my job in Virgina and never made more than $35K a year. Many other employees made more sacrifices than me. The mode of our employees was about 20 years(don't quote me on that as I was not privy to that information yet most employees remembered me as a kid begging to drive the forklift). Our maintenance guy Kenny worked for Charles for over 40 years. Sue one of the best seamstress I have known was with us for over two decades.

I used an old password to log on, I am not the administrator of this account. If I am unable to respond that might be a reason why.

Reading all of the kind comments about my Grandfather's furniture is a great reminder of him. On behalf of Charles and more importantly the workers who hand built every davenport(another word for sofa or couch) and chair thank you!

I do not think I am in the position to comment on the reason for closing because I was not part of the the 4 person board of directors. However the best answer I can give you is... The price would of needed to be two or three times more or lower quality and use more offshore labor. ---Legal notice? This is my opinion not a statement by Charles inc. I do know for a fact that the company did NOT go bankrupt. I remember my grandmother(Cynthia) making that very clear that it was "closed in a proper manner", meaning no outstanding liabilities.

I am sorry that no person has posted that were were closed. This is many years late. My brother Michael was the President, hopefully he has the password and can make me administrator, so I can do my best to answer the many question that this FaceBook page gets.

This is the back panel of our 1132FS32 chair. Each tuft is hand tied to a foam cylinder with double twist nylon, creating a tuft that will last.

This might look like a cart full of trash...
But not to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bellevue, NE, to them it's blankets.

By fabric donations the church has sewn over 6,000 quilts for people in need. The volunteer sewing guild even uses the smallest scraps that must be sewn by hand. As a result they have saved one full dumpster from going to the landfill. Everyone here at Charles wants to thank them for keeping so many people warm this winter.
