8 tips to make your upholstered furniture look new longer.

1. Avoid sun damage such as color fading and weakened fibers by keeping furniture out of direct sunlight.

2. Vacuum upholstered furniture frequently and thoroughly, especialy under the seat cushions. Even your furniture in areas that see little use, will accumulate dirt and dust that can damage the fibers of your upholstery fabric over time.

3. Share the wear! Rotate the cushions and pillows around as often as possible.

4. Avoid contact with newspapers on upholstery fabric as the newsprint inks can transfer to the fabric.

5. Avoid using dark colored blankets and throw pillows on light colored fabrics. The dyes can transfer to the fabric even when dry. The dyes in blue jeans easily transfer to upholstery fabrics causing permanent discoloration.

6. It is good practice to keep all substances that have the ability to cause permanent stains away from your upholstery fabrics. Paint, ink, nail polish, foods, and beverages can all leave permanent stains.

7. Remember, the zippers on cushions are there for the convenience of the manufacturer. It does mean it is safe to remove the covers for dry cleaning or machine washing.

8. Always consult a certified upholstery cleaning service before attempting upholstery cleaning at home.
