Dave's Flute Creations

Dave's Flute Creations Native American Style Flute Maker. My story is similar to others who got started making Native American style flutes.

While vacationing through Utah and Arizona in 2008 with my wife Lois and friends, we drove to Monument Valley to take in the stunning desert scenery. Afterward, we visited a gift shop on a nearby Navajo reservation. As I entered the shop, I could hear background music on a CD of a flutist playing. The music was so soothing and hypnotic, I just had to check it out. The shop had a flute display of s

ome really beautiful instruments. I don’t remember the artist who made the flutes for that shop but they were beautiful and ... very expensive! As I studied one, and since I’m already a woodworker, I thought to myself, “I could make one of these and save myself a lot of money”. Well the idea stuck with me and after I returned home, I did a lot of research gathering information and visiting a lot of flute makers website. I then attempted to make my first flute in the key of “G”. After a lot of frustration and hours of time, I finally produced a playable flute. Not the greatest sounding flute but it did make a sound. I now know why the flutes in that shop were so expensive. Since then, I’ve been hooked on making flutes and continuing to improve my process. Lucky for me, I was able to find a flute circle right in my home town where I could meet other players, share ideas and enjoy the music of some really talented people. I just love the tranquil sound of these flutes and the calming effect they have on you. I'm retired, so I have the time to fulfill my new woodworking passion.
