A Chick & A Chair Upholstery

A Chick & A Chair Upholstery BOOKS CURRENTLY CLOSED TO NEW PROJECTS Residential upholstery, specializing in vintage and family heirlooms Hi there! I'm Lindsay. They had a story. I was hooked.

A Chick & A Chair started when I kept bringing home wonderful vintage furniture that needed new fabric. Always creative and hands-on, I decided that upholstery was something I wanted to try on my own. I grabbed every book I could put my hands on, and scoured the internet for videos and blogs telling me how to do it. Throughout this time, I was working on the pieces at home, and posting pictures of

them to my personal page on Facebook. Eventually, friends began to notice my work, and one friend decided to take a chance on this do-it-yourselfer, and actually paid me to reupholster some chairs for her. But they weren't just any chairs - they had belonged to her grandmother, and they were special. From then on, I realized I had found my calling, and A Chick & A Chair was born in 2016. I now enjoy specializing in chairs with stories for many clients, and I hope to help you help turn your vintage treasures and beloved pieces into family heirlooms!

Throwback to this sweet pillow I crafted using the new fabric the clients chose, and a scrap of the original fabric in the shape of Minnesota to create a special heirloom! The chair had belonged to a beloved grandparent, and was becoming the rocking chair in the nursery for their first child. 🥹

First, I cut the scrap into the shape of Minnesota, added a little stuffing underneath, and then carefully folded under the edges and hand-stitched it onto the new fabric using an embroidery hoop.

I loved surprising my clients with this small gift!

On Monday, we drove to southern Wisconsin for a grad party (for our goddaughter!), and our route took us through a portion of Iowa.
On our way, we passed Effigy Mounds National Monument. I remarked that we should stop there the next day on our way home. It's not every day that you get to enjoy the National Park system!
The next day, we stopped by. Being Iowa, I expected something like a field with large mounds. I thought we'd be in and out in 30 minutes.
What we got was a 350 foot elevation rise in a gorgeous forest with views for days!
We ended up staying there for a couple hours. We checked out the mini-museum, chatted with park rangers, took a two-mile hike, stood on a fire overlook above the Wisconsin River, and meet fellow hikers (and their dogs), and
enjoyed the sounds of a dozen bird species while the breeze fluttered the leaves above us.
So glad we didn't just drive by!

We have a house finch that decided to make its nest in the wreath on our front door, and it looks like the first couple eggs hatched earlier today, with a couple in the clutch that are in the process of hatching!

I don't think mama finch likes it too much when I open the front door, so I haven't done it in a while, but these little babies are just too cute/ugly to not want to check back in! 🥹
