🏠 BIG COMMUNITY ASK! ❤️

One of our graduates is getting the keys to her very own forever home this coming week, and we could use a little help from our amazing community!

This will be her first home in years, and right now, she essentially has nothing to put in it.

She has worked incredibly hard to get to this point. Recently, she has had some big expenses with big price tags—including getting her driver's license and purchasing a car—so after paying her housing costs to get her place, her budget for furnishing her new home is extremely small would say $0.00- but I am sure there is a nickel lying around.

So, we are asking:

🛋️ Do you have a piece of furniture you no longer need?
🍽️ Kitchen items taking up space in your cabinets?
🛏️ Bedding, towels, lamps, dishes, pots and pans, or other household necessities?
🪑 A small table, chairs, dresser, nightstand, or anything else that could help make an apartment feel like home?

If it is clean, useful, and something you would feel comfortable giving to someone starting over, we would love to hear from you!

Donations can be made directly to Independence Again, a nonprofit organization, and we will make sure the items get to her as she begins this next chapter. If keeping documentation of charitable donations is important to you, donating through Independence Again allows the contribution to be made to the nonprofit rather than directly to the individual.

Starting over is HARD. But starting over is also so incredibly worth the work. ❤️

She has put in the work to get here. She has earned this fresh start. Now let's help her turn four empty walls into a home.

Sometimes the things sitting unused in our closets, garages, and spare rooms can mean the world to someone else.

If you're looking for a recovery event to attend, here's one you may enjoy.

One of our local attorneys, who has been a strong supporter of the recovery community, will be speaking in Smithville on August 1.

His approach is faith-based, and he's also the author of the book I've been reading recently. It's a thoughtful, well-written, and nonjudgmental perspective on recovery.

If you're interested in recovery, encouragement, or simply hearing a different perspective, this may be a great event to attend.

A huge thank you to the Drug-Free Coalition for providing Narcan training to 52 of our Independence Again residents!

We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to partner with our ROAPS trainer and work together to create positive change in our community. Every person trained represents another opportunity to save a life and strengthen recovery support throughout our region.

While we would have loved to see 100% attendance, we're proud of the 52 residents who participated and are already looking forward to our next training session. Our goal is full participation next time!

Next up on our training list: CPR certification! We can't wait to continue equipping our residents with life-saving skills and empowering them to make a difference.

Big ask, friends 🙏

We just learned that one of our residents was released from the prison system at (8:00am today) without any coordination or reentry transportation planning. He’s currently stranded in Murfreesboro with no transportation, and UCHRA is closed for the holiday until Tuesday.

For his safety, we need to get him to Cookeville safely as soon as possible.

Is anyone traveling from Murfreesboro to Cookeville today who would be willing to help us out with a ride? Please reach out if you can assist.

We could really use a little help right now at Independence Again ❤️

Our dryer is not working like it should, and it’s making a constant sound the entire time it’s running. We’re not sure if it can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced, but either way, we need some support.

If you or someone you know is skilled in appliance repair and would be willing to take a look, we would be so grateful. And if anyone feels led to donate a working dryer, it would make a big difference for our program and the people we serve every day.

Clean clothes may seem small, but they matter in a big way for dignity and recovery. We have to replace about 2 a year due to so much use.
