Today we wrapped up a milestone project for our company. What is it you ask? Well, it is best categorized as ‘rare’ or ‘extremely unique’. It’s not a piece of furniture. It’s not a cabinet. It’s not a building. Yet, it is all three at once.
Perhaps some will recognize it right away. Others may wonder “what in the world is that thing”? We were commissioned to design and build a large scale wardrobe inspired by a famous author and movie, that was planned to be showcased in a private garden that would one day be donated as a public park.
It all started with nothing but a picture and the challenge to figure it out. We reverse engineered every single detail from the picture alone with no dimensions, no plans and no specifications. Months of engineering went into the careful design of the internal steel frame, the wood species, the finish and the assembly methods. One of the major challenges was that this exhibit was planned to be installed outside, with permanent exposure to UV, weather and temperature and humidity swings. An exhaustive list of solutions had to be generated to overcome the near endless challenges in trying to pull off a successful build in an environment like this.
The first cut and weld started in September and the woodwork commenced a few weeks after. A project like this is not possible and does not come to fruition without a very dedicated team of suppliers, subcontractors and employees. We would like to recognize the team that made this a success. A special thanks to KBS Proworks, Trails End Custom Construction, LLC, RSG Services Machine Shop, Keith Heaton, Casey Eichfeld: C1 Slalom and Henry Osuna.
As this project is being shipped out Monday morning, we forge on to the next set of challenges with our ‘MISSION DRIVEN. SOLUTIONS FOCUSED.’ approach.
