One year ago today Global Thermostat launched the United States’ first kiloton-scale Direct Air Capture (DAC) commercial demonstration unit. Capable of removing 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (a kiloton) from the atmosphere per year depending on local climate, we call this module the ‘K-Series.’ Our team of over 30 engineers, technicians, and operators was joined by Colorado Governor Jared Polis, U.S. House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, Sarah Forbes of the White House Climate Policy Office, and corporate partners, investors, and environmental NGO leaders to celebrate the achievement.

We need to remove billions of tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere over the coming decades, and this machine marked a significant milestone for us and the industry’s journey to gigaton-scale removal.

Since launching the K-Series, we’ve seen increasing global demand for Global Thermostat’s advantaged and advanced DAC solution and have been scaling in multiple dimensions to meet the moment:

✅ We completed a DOE-funded engineering design with Black & Veatch, Sargent and Lundy, and other industry leaders for our megaton ‘M-Series’ embodiment for climate-scale applications
✅ We commissioned our first ’T-Series’ containerized DAC unit - designed to remove from tonnes to tens of tonnes per year from the atmosphere and aimed at smaller commercial and pilot applications
✅ Secured our participation in several U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) DAC Hubs
✅ Advanced a growing number of signature carbon removal and carbon utilization projects with a diverse range of aligned partners globally
✅ Establish strategic partnerships with both Tokyo Gas and Sumitomo Corporation and launched Global Thermostat Japan to meet the growing demand for DAC solutions by leading Asian companies operating around the world
✅ Significantly increased our team of business leaders, engineers, and scientists with deep experience in industry and scaling revolutionary technologies
✅ Expanded our world-class research and engineering facilities in Denver, Colorado to enhance our ability to deploy
✅ And more!

We’ve come a long way over a last year, and further we must go! We’re committed to contributing to the positive, sustainable, and equitable development of the circular carbon economy. If you're looking to partner with a Direct Air Capture company to ensure this ecosystem evolves in a way that is good for people, profits, and planet, we’d love to hear from you.

Last week, we were thrilled that our SVP Commercial Development, Kenn Kerr, was asked to participate in the Western Governors' Association’s Darbonizing The West workshop, an initiative of Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon. Kenn joined Governor Mark Gordon, Newsha Ajami, PhD of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Matt Fry of the Great Plains Institute for a panel to explore how close stakeholder collaboration, along with regional and community partnerships, can advance the development and deployment of carbon removal technologies, including Direct Air Capture.

Decarbonization strategies and technologies like DAC can position Western states at the forefront of innovation, reduce the harmful effects of carbon emissions on the environment, and create significant new employment and economic opportunities. Global Thermostat is proudly headquartered in Colorado, where Governor Jared Polis and his administration are also working hard to spur the development of a smart, robust carbon management ecosystem. Global Thermostat applauds and is proud to support these efforts to bring stakeholders together to form integrated solutions across the carbon management ecosystem in the west (and beyond) to rapidly deploy and scale decarbonization solutions!

Thank you to Governor Gordon and the WGA for the rich discussion!

Excited to have Nicholas Eisenberger, Head of Market Development, Policy and Engagement, join Kelly Cummins, Douglas Chan, Chris Gould and Danny Broberg for a conversation on how to build successful DAC Hubs at the Bipartisan Policy Center’s DAC Day 2024.

Direct Air Capture (DAC) technologies are an essential part of the toolkit needed to reach net-zero emissions, and the United States is leading the world in DAC demonstration and early deployment thanks to key government initiatives like the DAC Hubs and strong private sector investments in carbon removal. There are many challenges in scaling this nascent industry and it’s both thrilling and critical to collaboratively lean in with diverse leaders across the carbon management space - from technology and industry to policy and finance - to discuss the specific capital and policy requirements to rapidly develop DAC markets in a timeframe that achieves our collective climate targets.

A big thank you to Policy Center for holding dedicated space for this multi-stakeholder DAC discussion.

Meet the T-Series, our latest Direct Air Capture innovation.

A modular, containerized system, the T-Series is designed to remove from tonnes to tens of tonnes per year from the atmosphere and is aimed at smaller commercial and pilot operations. The T-Series module is plug-and-play ready, powered by a single electrical feed that can be directly integrated with renewable power sources and operates autonomously to produce high-purity, pressurized CO2.

The T-Series can be quickly fabricated and easily delivered by road, rail, or ship – providing customers a rapidly deployable, low-footprint, climate-friendly way of obtaining the carbon dioxide they need. If you’re interested in piloting a smaller scale Direct Air Capture solution as you plan higher volume deployments in the future, the T-Series is for you.

We’re excited to share that MicroBio Engineering Inc will deploy the first T-Series system in collaboration with Cyanotech Corporation, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and the U.S. Department of Energy to demonstrate the use of air-captured CO2 to enhance the production of microalgae biomass for renewable fuels in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Today, Global Thermostat has a full suite of Direct Air Capture modules for our customers’ diverse needs for on-site generation of CO2 from air, from our new containerized T-Series mobile modules for small-scale applications in the multi-tonnes per year, to our K-Series modules for kilotonne-level needs, and our M-Series for climate-scale projects, for all of which we are seeing growing demand in the market.

We’re thrilled to be featured in Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s ‘Roads to Removal’ report, a national collaborative effort by more than 68 scientists, and 13 academic institutions that evaluates regionally specific opportunities for Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) including Direct Air Capture (DAC) with careful consideration of local and national needs and resource constraints.

The report finds that in addition to having the potential to permanently remove billions of tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere, Direct Air Capture implementation can also create significant carbon management jobs and help ease the energy transition in vulnerable communities.

Global Thermostat’s highly flexible, scalable, and efficient Direct Air Capture Solutions - which can capture from tonnes to megatonnes and integrate with many different sources of heat and power - allows for diverse carbon removal and carbon utilization applications across the globe. Proven through 12 orders of magnitude - from the microscopic to kilotonnes in the field - it is also one of the most advanced DAC solutions in the world, ready for deployment.
