Hi friends! Case here. I just wanted to say a word before ending my time as one of the owners at Old Town Upholstery.
When we have the benefit of knowing beforehand that an ending is coming it becomes important how we end things. So, I’d like to leave by expressing my gratitude.
First and foremost, of course, to Matt. For being a dedicated upholstery sewer (not an easy job), a solid business partner, and a friend throughout it all. We started in his (very hot) garage 8-1/2 years ago and kept giving ourselves challenges to rise to - from leaving the garage and getting our first real workspace, to taking a leap of faith and switching from residential reupholstery to commercial work. Together we met every one that came our way.
Now I’m preparing for some new challenges. I’ve been lucky to spend these years working on furniture, learning more every day. I’m going out on my own now to try my hand at designing and building my own pieces, drawing from what I’ve learned during my time at OTU. There are so many cool things to make and fabrics to use! I can’t wait!
To help me in my furniture designing and making development I’ll be spending the winter months in Maine at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship (). I’ll be posting and sharing my journey as I go so if you’d like to follow along with me (and I’d love to have you) you can find me at .
If I’ve ever reupholstered furniture for you - thank you. If we’ve talked furniture, fabrics, foam, or I’ve been able to help bring some part of your vision to life - thank you!
There have been so many friends, family, clients, and teachers that have made this portion of my furniture journey possible and I appreciate you all. I’m so proud of what Matt and I have built together at Old Town Upholstery and it means a lot to me to know that it will continue on under his direction. Please keep supporting this special upholstery shop we’ve built together. These trades and skills are so important right now.
Thank you all. It’s been an honor to be your upholsterer! To paraphrase David Bowie (my creative guiding star) - I don’t know exactly where I’m going but I promise it won’t be boring.
