Hello friends!
I haven't posted on here for a very long time. I was caring for my elderly father and had to take time away from furniture restoration.
So many things have happened in the last few years. I now have an eBay store with the same name; GussiedUpcycle. We find collectibles and other items and offer them for sale in our store.
Check it out when you get a chance! I'm hoping to be able to do some furniture pieces in the near future, we'll see how that pans out.
I'll try to post updates on here as often as I can, and highlight some of the more interesting collectibles available in the eBay store.

Masculine, with an Old World vibe. This coffee table is adorned with exquisite, hand-carved details.
The body is done in a multi-layered hand-waxed finish, buffed to a velvety sheen.
The top is done in General Finishes Lamp Black color and High Performance Flat top coat, for durability.

My paternal grandfather's desk.
We think it's probably around 100 yrs. old.
I think I did a bang-up job on it. The "jewelry" really makes it shine.

These beautiful oversized occasional chairs are in my personal collection in my billiards room.
On the left is the original condition. Notice the webbing hanging from underneath. The upholstery is cracked and the decorative tacks had seen better days.
On the right is the redo. I found a luxurious faux suede upholstery fabric to compliment the intricately carved details on the wooden frame. New webbing was installed for support, braided trim and decorative tacks add the finishing touch.
I think they're lovely.

For all you DIYers out there.

PVC Sanding Files

Stick sandpaper to cutoff pieces of PVC water pipe with spray-on adhesive and you’ll be able to sand concave curves to perfection. PVC pipe is labeled by inside diameter; here’s an index for the outside diameter of useful pipe sizes.

1/2-in. i.d. = 7/8-in. o.d.
3/4-in. i.d. = 1-in. o.d.
1-in. i.d. = 1-1/4-in. o.d.
1-1/4-in. i.d. = 1-5/8-in. o.d.
1-1/2-in. i.d. = 1-7/8-in. o.d.

To apply sandpaper to the pipe, spray both the paper and the pipe with a generous layer of adhesive. Let both surfaces dry several minutes before joining them.
Use two grits on each pipe—80-grit for sculpting a precise radius, and 100- or 120-grit for finish sanding.
When the sandpaper’s worn out, just pull it off, spray fresh adhesive on a new strip and go back to having fun.

Pre Civil War piece.

I consulted with my brother that lives on the west coast about this piece. He's an antique expert.

This piece is American made. Likely Ohio Valley. Shockingly, there's no metal in it's construction. Even the drawer pulls are attached with wooden dowel screws. The back is attached to the front with mortise and tenon joints.

Approximate age is 1830-1840.
I knew it was old, but had no idea it was this old.
Needless to say, I won't be changing anything about this piece.

Was going to sell it. Probably have to keep it now.
It's an American classic. Fyi, it's an Ogee-front chest of drawers.

This is a really old piece.
The "veneer" is 1/4 inch thick, as seen in the side-view picture of the drawer.
At some point, it's been refinished but it was also a lovely golden yellow in a previous life, as seen on the rear leg.
All in all, a pretty sweet piece of handmade glory.

Beth's beautiful Mid-Century Modern buffet was done to coordinate with her home's color palette. Green is blended into light blue then the light blue is blended into the navy border. Sparkling beads accent both doors to add a little unexpected glam.
