๐ OK, maybe we're a little too old to sit at a desk with the kids these days โ but Teacher Distinctive is back in session, and this semester's subject is Quartzite 101.

๐ Pop quiz, if "quartz" and "quartzite" are basically the same word, why are they such different materials?
The names aren't confusing you by accident. Both are, at their core, actually made of quartz.
๐ Quartzite starts as sandstone, buried deep underground for millions of years under intense heat and pressure until the quartz grains inside fuse together into solid rock. It's mined, cut, and polished โ nothing added, nothing manufactured.
๐ Quartz countertops start with the same mineral. But instead of waiting millions of years underground, it's ground up and bound with resin in a factory, then pressed into slabs.
Same mineral. Two completely different journeys. That's the whole reason the names sound alike โ and it's also why they behave so differently once they're in your kitchen.
๐ฅ Quartzite can take a hot pan straight off the stove without flinching. Quartz can't and direct heat above roughly 300ยฐF can permanently damage the resin, leaving dark spots or cracks that can't be buffed out.
