8️⃣7️⃣8️⃣ - The number of days since our last post. 878 days spent refocusing our time and energy into things that give life rather than take it away. Spending every evening possible with our kids. All of the birthday parties. School events. Sports. Church on Sundays, again (thank you Jesus 🙌🏼). There is massive irony in the reality that the very thing we sought to bring us joy and stability delivered us to a place of misery and emptiness. I learned the hard way of the repercussions of being a "yes man" in the field of custom works. I worked tirelessly in the evenings to attempt to meet deadlines and failed more times than I care to speak of. I told my kids I couldn't play with them after dinner because I had to work. Our marriage suffered. I tried drowning my stress (by the way this never works). 878 days ago we decided to say "no" for the first time in our journey. The pain of lost revenue was real but quickly faded to a liberating freedom!

This table represents a new chapter in my journey as a maker. The first piece I've built with the intention to sell without anyone else's input or timeline. I'm grateful to have this opportunity and ability to make something from nothing, and I'm proud that we recognized exactly when to start saying no, ultimately preserving our true passion for this craft. While we have moved away from taking custom requests, we will continue to offer pieces for sale periodically however our schedule (no one else's) allows. My hope is that you'll find hope in this, and that you'll never be afraid to chase your passion, even if it means stopping the chase for a while.

We just finalized a pair of these side tables this week. Is it obvious that we gravitate towards this modern industrial style lately? The variety of natural tones in the reclaimed cedar paired with the powder coated steel frames tell such a story of strength and simple elegance. Love it! These stand at 24”T and 27” square. After this final glue up, I’ll close the doors tonight one last time before packing it up. For 4 years out of 5 doing woodworking, I’ve spent countless hours in here chasing a dream, fulfilling a passion, driving out anger, rejoicing in the highs and crawling through the lows that real life brings. You name it and these walls have seen it. While it’s bittersweet saying goodbye to our first home, this place has served us so well. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to start a family here, and even more excited to see what adventures our next home brings. THANK YOU!
