Finished a short little 6-hr project today making a long-overdue pedestal for my Shishigashira Maple. I wanted to keep it very minimal while adding a few stylish features like a herringbone pattern top and doweled joinery.

The wood is repurposed old Louisiana Swamp Cypress (now a protected tree) with a simple linseed oil finish.

Had a blast in Death Valley but glad to be home.

What I love about the desert is how it seems to redefine time - it dwarfs how we understand the present, stretching it out in front of us in terms of eons that can be felt and seen alike.

It reminds me that everything is so small, fleeting and temporary. Even the things we find worth holding onto, we must realize will one day be taken by the hands of entropy. We should cherish these things as passing gifts, and love all that we can, as much as we can, while we can. What a shame to fill these moments instead with anger and strife.
