This Dixie dresser is a vintage charmer from the mid-century era, known for its graceful bowed fronts, carved floral appliqués, and iconic oval hardware. Pieces from this line were built with style in mind.

This particular piece was a commissioned refinish that had seen a life. There were pet scratches on nearly every drawer, dents and bruising throughout, and areas of chipped veneer. It showed just about every issue you expect to uncover in well-used furniture. It also had the most red aniline dye I've ever encountered. Stripped to raw wood, neutralized, toned, and sealed to let the grain tell its story without the red overpowering it. This one is headed for a vanity conversion, and I can't wait to see it installed!

Detailed with carved trim, subtle fluting, and turned bun feet, this vintage cabinet offers classic, understated style. The interior is fitted with three fixed shelves, making it a practical storage piece for linens, pantry goods, folded clothing, or even toys. A timeworn surface gives it an authentic feel without compromising function. Special thanks to .tn for sharing the brass latch that they used on their gorgeous Gustavian-inspired cabinet. It was the perfect addition to secure the door of this vintage beauty.

This vintage Bassett dresser sold via my Etsy shop, but I had to give it a permanent spot here since I love it so much. If anyone is thinking about using this color on a piece or in their home, it's the perfect light blue! 🐦

This sideboard was built to be a modern replica of a late 1800s piece. It was originally stained dark, but now has been fully stripped, lightened, and finished to resemble the soft, weathered look of driftwood 🌊 I wanted it to feel like something you’d find in a breezy coastal home—timeless, natural, and full of character. Lined drawers, carved details, and a muted finish make this one extra special.

These humble chests were common in 19th century homes—made from locally sourced pine, they were affordable and functional, often built by hand or in small workshops. The simple lines, wooden k***s, sturdy craftsmanship, and knapp joints are all hallmarks of the era.

This one still bears the marks of time—wormholes, shrinkage cracks, an aged patina—so I gave it a respectful refinish to preserve all that history. It had been refinished in the past in a more orange tone, so I removed that, made repairs, cut down the back plate, and brought it to a muted brown with a waxed finish.

Although this vintage Federal-style sideboard had seen better days (swipe for the before!), I saw beauty in its deep color that had been achieved partly from its decades old shellac. I chose to repair and preserve that finish, then added some extra shine and durability with a gloss polyurethane. This high-quality, statement piece is now available ✨️

Living out my Nancy Meyers/English cottage dreams styling this cute European pine cabinet🐦🌱🧺

This charming sideboard blends rustic and timeless, my favorite combination. With warm wood tones, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and original hardware, it’s as practical as it is beautiful.

Hi, I'm Darlene 👋 I'm the founder and artist behind AGleam, and I wanted to introduce myself to my new friends here!

Originally from NYC and currently based in Raleigh, North Carolina, I believe my background and surroundings have heavily influenced my design style. Growing up in the city gave me an appreciation for bold statements and high contrast, while living in the South has nurtured my love for warmth, charm, and inviting spaces.

Through AGleam, I combine these influences to breathe new life into vintage and antique furniture. I take pride in blending craftsmanship with creativity — whether I'm preserving a piece's historical character or giving it a fresh, updated glow.

Some facts about me:
• I've been refinishing and restoring furniture since 2012
• I have three children — two girls and a boy. I'm a perpetually tired mom who lives on dark chocolate lattes ☕️
• I've loved interior design ever since watching Genevieve Gorder and HGTV with my grandma as a girl 🏡
• I started AGleam after leaving my career as a Mother/Baby RN. Though I know this is the right path for me, I miss the patient connections and will carry those memories forever
• I'm obsessed with European furniture and architecture. My next dream travel destination is Ireland 🇮🇪
• I fully believe furniture restoration and refinishing is an art form and wish it had more respect as such

My goal is to create pieces that feel both timeless and unique — something you'll love for years to come. Whether you're a fellow refinisher or someone looking for the perfect statement piece, I'm so glad you're here! 🫶

Sometimes, it takes a while for me to decide what direction I'll take a piece in, and sometimes, I instantly know at first sight. (Swipe➡️ for the before!) The latter was the case with this Vanleigh 1920s dresser. I was inspired by those antique bleached french commodes that strike the perfect balance between rustic and refined. Like a lot of antiques kept in storage, it was rough. The finish was so dark that I didn't even realize it had those flower inlays at first! When I started the stripping process, I saw that gorgeous veneer starting to appear and was SO excited. After stripping, I used wood bleach to lighten, which worked some, but mahogany is stubborn, so I then went in with a very diluted green wash, and then a very diluted taupe wash. Touched up some areas (though not all because I really wanted rustic!), added a top-coat, shellaced the drawers, and then added that pretty liner in the delicates drawer for its finishing touch. The hardware was perfection after polishing! Life made this project drag on way longer than it needed to, and she was a bit of a labor of love, but I'm so happy with the result. What do you guys think?

I'd love to repeat this finish, so if anyone local comes across a similar style dresser needing a refinishing, please let me know!

Vintage academia is definitely one of my favorite décor styles. This oak filing cabinet, featuring a tiger oak veneer exterior, showcases a striking wood grain that adds warmth and character. My favorite part is the adjustable dividers. A timeless piece, this cabinet seamlessly blends functionality with classic craftsmanship.

Large vintage step back hutch crafted from solid walnut. I only had to do some minor restoration work on this one because it had been cared for so well over the past fifty years. This cabinet has so many great features, including double plate rails on all three shelves, a molded cornice (those scallops, guys 😍), inlaid escutcheons, and patinated brass pulls. This is the type of furniture that becomes a heirloom and is cherished for decades.
