Like most success stories, it all started with a dream. I was 22 years old, I designed an end table, put it in the backseat of my ’69 Mustang, and started cold calling furniture stores.
Not long after, I quit my job to pursue a passion for making solid oak furniture. A lot of ups and downs, but eventually I launched this online marketplace, TheOakFurnitureShop.com.
It’s been 40 years, thousands of pieces of furniture, an equal number of happy customers. But as with all things, I am sensing that it is time to move on. If you have followed my site, no doubt you have noticed that I have eliminated a large percentage of my product line. I have done this to reach my first goal of going part time. My next goal, to retire.
I have been asked by family, friends, and customers, when do I plan on shutting this business down? That is a hard question to answer. I currently plan on staying in production until the Spring of 2023. It is possible that I might keep a small selection on the website, just building a few pieces here and there. It is also possibly that I will wake up some morning this winter and know that the time has come and be done.
My point is this, if you are intending to have me make a piece of furniture for you, might be a good idea to get it on order.
It has been an awesome 40 years. I have so much gratitude for those that helped me along the way, my wife and daughter, my website developer, my suppliers, so many have made this possible. However, most of all, to you, my customer.
Thank You!
