We all know what the two fences on each end of the piece are for, but why the block BEHIND it?
Context: I'm routing slots through 1/2" poplar on two adjacent sides, cold starting from pilot holes in multiple progressive passes. DISREGARD the Sharpie writing on that block.

Compare the edges of the first 2 routes (on the left) with the third one in. What do you notice?'Scoring' cut lines alon...

Compare the edges of the first 2 routes (on the left) with the third one in. What do you notice?
'Scoring' cut lines along the outer diameter of your router bit path (where my finger is pointing) before routing ensures a clean cut with absolute minimum to no edge tearout - even when using a top-grade bit, like here (Amana).
