Join us in celebrating one of our own, Boyan Marinov!

Boyan was selected and commissioned to create and install a sculpture at the NIU College of Visual and Performing Arts and College of Liberal Arts and Science. His piece, “The Tribesman, The Hero and The Light,” is a free-standing stainless-steel sculpture consisting of figures and five-inch-thick steel circles.

At Agati, one of our core values is passion for what we do. We love celebrating the moments we see our team's passion for design and creativity, both in our work at Agati and beyond. This piece is a testament to the incredibly-talented people we have on our team and the passion we bring to everything we create.

Team Introductions: Say hi to Miles, our Junior Product Designer! 👋

➡️ How long have you been at Agati?

I have been at Agati for a little less than a year!

➡️ What does a typical day at work look like for you?

Every day is different, but my day is usually split between assisting the solution design team with custom furniture and advancing new product lines.

➡️ What do you like most about your job?

I love how varied my job is! Every day presents a fresh and interesting challenge.

➡️ What's your favorite product line from Agati?

My favorite line is the Etta collection. I love the simple and elegant forms of these products.

➡️ What are your hobbies when you're not at work?

I love riding my bike along the lakefront. During the winter, I enjoy building and painting scale models of cars.

➡️ If you could live a day in the life of a movie character, who would you choose and why?

I would love to live a day as Tony Stark from Iron Man. I think it would be pretty fun to fly around and feel invincible in his suit!

Joe Agati, Sr. and Joe Agati, Jr. recently attended the American Library Association Annual Conference in San Diego. This conference is one of our favorite events each year! It’s always an honor to connect with those in this line of work, gaining valuable insight into ways we can continue serving library spaces.

During the conference, Joe Jr. participated in an Academic Library and Learning Spaces Tour, visiting innovative academic libraries and flexible learning spaces like UC San Diego’s Geisel Library, Design and Innovation Building, and the Halicioglu Data Science Institute (HDSI), as well as University of San Diego's Copley Library.

It was exciting to see the Copley Library on this tour, as we have had the opportunity to be part of furnishing this space back in 2011 and they returned to Agati during their redesign in 2022, in partnership with Pfeiffer, now joined with Perkins Eastman.

This installation at the Almonte Library in Oklahoma City remains one of our favorites!

We enjoyed our collaboration with Steinberg Hart to create a space where the furniture not only fit with the existing environment, but elevated it!

You can see how our POD and POD Duo break up the rows of books to create intentional havens for patrons to study, read, or collaborate.

"I kept gravitating to the Orb..."

The Orb Lounge chair wraps around guests like a baseball glove. With just the right amount of lumbar support, users are comfortable to both lounge and get some work done. Organic, circular shapes lend creativity to your floor plan. The upholstered, wrap-around arms hold and bolster users, bringing a sense of security in a public environment.

At our Design Days event, Wendy Tressler with the Columbus Metropolitan Library shared, “These are things to keep an eye on. I loved the new modern take on the carrel and I kept gravitating to the Orb. I try to pay attention to what’s going on in airport furniture and design. If it can withstand airport usage, it has a good chance to withstand the use seen in public libraries."
