Our Story

John E. Lubinski I, Ken Lubinski’s grandfather, started Lubinski’s as a wood and coal hauling company in 1937. The business continued as a household and office furniture moving company until 1954. At that time, the company expanded into retail furniture sales serving the needs of the residents of Wicker Park as well as the greater Chicagoland area. From a small storefront on North Ashland, it eventually moved to its current location at 1550 N. Milwaukee Avenue where it has maintained its reputation as one of the premier purveyors of furniture and appliances in Chicago as well as being a trusted moving company throughout the state of Illinois.

Ken and Sylvia Lubinski purchased the family business in 2006.

The store itself, located in an iconic building in historic Wicker Park, is fitted with the original tin ceilings and arranged to facilitate browsing, and has remained unchanged for the past 25 years at 1550 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Like its owners, it is a living example of this neighborhood's rich heritage.
