I've always had a weakness for old dishes. Especially those pretty soft greens and the little floral patterns you don't see as much of anymore.

I think half the fun of collecting things is remembering where you found them. A little thrift store you stopped in while you were out running errands, a yard sale you almost drove past, or something somebody in the family passed down to you.

And I like using those old things, too. I don't see much sense in having pretty dishes if they're always tucked away where nobody gets to enjoy them. Although I will admit, sometimes I just like looking at them sitting on a shelf. 😊

I love the old-fashioned idea of a mudroom. A place to leave your boots, hang up your coat, and maybe set down whatever you've been carrying around all day.

I think we sometimes forget how nice the ordinary parts of life can be. Coming home after a long day, changing into something comfortable, and knowing you don't have to go anywhere else if you don't want to.

And I don't think a mudroom has to be fancy to be useful. A good sturdy bench, a few hooks, and some baskets to catch all the things that otherwise end up scattered around the house. That's plenty for me. 🀍🌿

I've been wrong about people before. Thought I had somebody pretty well figured out, only to find out later that I didn't know nearly as much as I thought I did.

And I'm sure people have gotten the wrong impression of me a time or two, too.

I think we're all pretty quick to form opinions sometimes. We see how somebody looks, or hear one little thing about them, and before long we've made up our minds. I'm guilty of it myself.

But God knows the whole person. He knows things about us that nobody else ever will, and I'm thankful He sees beyond what everybody else sees.

I've always thought the best rooms are the ones where you can walk in, kick your shoes off, and feel right at home. Not the kind where you're afraid to sit down because everything looks too perfect.

Somewhere you can put your feet up, visit with somebody for a while, or just enjoy a quiet afternoon without feeling like you ought to be doing something else. 🌿

I've always loved the look of candles around the house, especially once the weather starts cooling off. Even if I don't light them, I like having them sitting around with a few old baskets, some greenery, and whatever else I've collected over the years.

And I think this time of year is when I really start enjoying being inside again. I'm ready for cooler days, something good cooking in the kitchen, and an evening when I don't feel like I have to be doing something every minute. πŸ‚

I think one of the harder things about getting older is realizing just how little control we really have over some things. I used to think if I worked hard enough and planned everything out just right, things would pretty much go the way I expected.

Well, life certainly taught me otherwise.

I've had some wonderful surprises along the way, and I've had some things happen that I wouldn't wish on anybody. But through all of it, God has been there. Even during the times when I couldn't understand what He was doing, or why things had to happen the way they did.

I still make my plans, and I probably always will. But I've learned to hold on to them a little more loosely than I used to.

I love rooms with lots of windows. Especially those little sunrooms where you can sit and watch what's going on outside without actually having to be out in the weather.

I think I'd have a hard time getting much done if I had a room like this. I'd probably spend half the afternoon sitting there watching the birds and whatever else wandered through the yard. 🌼🌿

I love those little outdoor sitting areas where you can pull up a chair and stay a while. Nothing fancy, just a couple of comfortable chairs, a little table, and maybe some flowers growing nearby.

And I think this time of year is about as good as it gets for sitting outside, especially when the weather's cooled off a little and the leaves are starting to fall. I'd much rather sit out there with a cup of coffee and enjoy the afternoon than spend it running from one thing to the next. πŸ‚

I've always admired people who are generous without making a big fuss over it. The ones who see somebody needing a little help and just do what they can. Sometimes nobody else even knows about it.

And I think generosity can be a lot more than giving money. It might be sharing something from your garden, fixing a meal for somebody, or giving a little of your time when you've already got plenty to do yourself.

I've been on both sides of that over the years, and I can tell you that being on the receiving end of somebody's kindness is something you don't soon forget.

I know we're still in October, but I've already started thinking about Christmas. I love the old-fashioned kind, with a tree in the corner, something good baking in the oven, and everybody gathered around the kitchen.

I think some of my favorite Christmas memories have very little to do with the presents. It's the little things I remember. The smells coming from the kitchen, the music playing, and all the excitement leading up to Christmas morning.

And doesn't it seem like Christmas comes around a little faster every year? I'm hoping to enjoy the season a little longer this time instead of feeling like it's over before I've even gotten started. πŸ’•πŸŽ„
