News of a super interesting (and exciting!) Polycor endeavor with core drilling at some of the historic Alberene Soapstone quarries! ***From an update sent to us from Candice Clark of Alberene Soapstone/Polycor:

"We have been working closely with the William & Mary geologist and a cohort of his students, along with Polycor 's in-house geology team, examining cores from 3 different sites. As the testing resumes to find the perfect stone, we are also reopening the quarry located on Old Dominion Road in Schuyler. We will be accessing material that is located about a mile from the last quarried site so I am very eager to see what the stone's characteristics will be and have my fingers crossed for some awesome veining!

This is extremely exciting for me as I've been at the quarry for 9 years now and this is only the 3rd time we've explored a new location, so I'm stoked to share the journey with you! Hopefully, I will have beautiful slabs to share with you very soon!"

SO - We will keep you posted and hopefully will have some wonderful new locally quarried material to share with you in the near future!

Volunteers Needed! | Saturday, January 15th @ 10am-12pm and/or 12pm-2pm

We are very excited to be accepting several new pieces of art for SCAN Land, but we need your help to make it a reality! We will be loading them up at the Kluge-Ruhe Museum (400 Worrell St, Charlottesville) and then unloading and installing them outside at SCAN Land. Working with a natural material like stone, we are often reminded that nature awes and inspires us by repeating patterns in many places...check out this new Australis Marble - it is like this blue sky peaking out from behind stormy clouds near sunset captured just north of Cville. And it is easy to see where the Carribean Sea Quartzite got the name - the crystal clear shallows on a sunny tropical island off the coast of Florida last week!

Countertop Fabricator & Programmer

Job Duties:

-Full time position working with a team to fabricate countertops and other stone products

-Employee is responsible for programming CNC routers, waterjets, and saws in a large shop space

-Must have CAD experience and will work with digital templates and shop drawings to produce model files

-Experience with CAM (computer aided manufacturing) software preferred, but not required

-Must be in good physical shape to help move stone around the shop with the assistance of gantry cranes and other equipment, in addition to reading a tape measure.

-Must have good communication and problem solving skills in addition to customer service skills

-Enjoy an energetic and team work environment

Compensation for candidates with CAD experience and increases based on production and other preferred skills. Candidates with CAM experience, especially with the industry preferred Alphacam, will be offered more compensation.

Employer contributes toward part of a health insurance plan
