November is Adoption Awareness Month. There are 4,787 children in foster care in Louisiana, and currently, 653 of them are freed for adoption and are awaiting their forever homes.
Unfortunately, for many of these children, they leave their homes with nothing more than a day or twos worth of clothing, and more sadly, many of them arrive to their foster homes with their belongings in a garbage bag. Our children deserve more than this.
I'm challenging all of you to challenge your students, clubs, organizations, civil groups, church groups, etc to either raise funds that can be donated towards the purchase of suitcases, or hold a suitcase drive to give these children the message that they are not trash.
My goal is to not only give these kids a suitcase, but also a teddy bear of some sort, as well as a small bag of personal hygiene products.
I've challenged my BETA students to raise enough to fund 150. Can we reach 2,500 across the state?
Please call me if you need any help, have any questions, or ideas.
