Hi, my name is Wendy, and I am the artist/creator/restorer behind I Love Old Furniture! I repair, restore and refinish furniture in my shop (also known as my house) in the Northwest Austin, Texas suburb of Cedar Park.
Although I have been a multimodality artist my entire life, I found that working on furniture is where I really found my happy place. So, I began to focus my knowledge and creativity on furniture more than 30 years ago.
Close to ten years ago now, I went through some significant life changes that knocked me for a loop, and I was left without a job with a steady income, but I still had endless bills coming in. I also found that my 78-year-old Mother was not doing nearly as well as she wanted me to believe living alone in her home several states away, and it became apparent that it was time for her to make a life change too.
So, I packed her up and moved her to Texas to live with me so I could take care of her, and she could be near her great-grandchildren, but I still had to find a way to support us. Well, my friends and family convinced me to start selling what I had been doing for free for years as a hobby. So I opened my shop up as a local business and started selling through word of mouth and eventually online through FaceBook.
Now granted, I mostly do custom work for my clients, but I have to be able to let loose and just have fun and do whatever I want to do. That's where these pre-finished pieces come from, my imagination, and my inventory.
When I take on a job to paint or stain a piece of furniture, the first thing I do is thoroughly inspect it to determine if any repairs are needed immediately, as well as if any potential areas will require repair in the future. I then make those repairs so that when the piece is returned to its owner, it will be in a condition to last for many more generations.
Repairs can be as simple as tightening and regluing joints, to fixing broken or cracked areas. Drawers get special attention as to their form and function.
I thoroughly clean all pieces inside and out. I can't think of anything worse than getting a fully restored dresser and putting your clothes in it only to have dirt or worse, bugs fall on them, yuk!
I research and replace missing hardware with the original antique or vintage pieces when possible. If I am unable to find the originals, I will use age & style appropriate replacements. I also repair, replace, or make broken or missing trim and embellishments. There is no detail too small that I overlook.
To say I'm a perfectionist is to say that Rembrandt was a pretty good artist.
Once I am satisfied that every possible thing that needs to be done is done, the fun begins. So, unless the client has a specific look in mind, I let the piece speak to me. I take into consideration where it will be placed in the end then I let it be created into the wonderful masterpiece it was destined to be.
Every piece of furniture becomes a one of a kind original work of art as I put my imagination and creativity into even the smallest details; so that your item will be the piece that will be passed down from generation to generation.
Why do I do all of this when it would be much easier to just slap a few coats of paint on it and call it a day? I do it because I LOVE OLD FURNITURE!

I would love to be your choice to make-over your prized possessions.
