6 Gift Shops set in a village like setting on our rural Cashton, WI farm
located 2 miles east of Cashton on Hwy 33
Many items made by the local Amish community and other local artisans, as well as general giftware. Chuck and I ( Kathy) both grew up in the rural Cashton area on dairy farms, and were quite young when the Amish began moving into the area. After marriage in 1978, Chuck & I settled on
a small farm just two miles East of Cashton, along Hwy 33, in the heart of Wisconsin's largest Amish community. Through numerous experiences we came to know our Amish neighbors and many became dear friends. In the Spring of 1994, with the encouragement of the Amish, we started our new little business here on the farm, calling it Down A Country Road Amish Gifts & Tours. Over the years (27 as I am writing this) the Amish have built most of our gift shop buildings. We continue, just as we did all those years ago, to work with many Amish families to sell their hand crafted products. While some families sell from their farms, We work with those who do not want to have contact with the outside world. We carry some furniture, quilts, rugs, baskets, wooden bowls and baskets, cookie cutters, cutting boards, wooden spoons, towels, barn stars, jams and jellies, noodles, maple syrup, honey products, home made candies and much more. But somewhere along the way, the Amish community changed. You see when we started the Amish did not sell from their farms. That changed, and as the Amish began selling from their farms, we also diversified our business. We brought in the work of other Artisans, some general gift ware, vintage items and an ice cream shop. At that time we rebranded our business to become " The Village Shops at Down A Country Road", which is what you will find on the sign at the end of our driveway! Because there is so much to see and do in the area and especially the Amish community, we encourage people to check it out! We hope to have you visit...
