These two cabinets for sale:
We are making some new cabinets for our showroom, and that means we need to let some pieces go in order to make room for the new ones. This is a set of stained Walnut lowers with shelves inside, and a blue-green faux-distressed painted upper cabinet. If you’re interested in it, then we invite you to come to our showroom and take a look at it. It is very important to us that we are about client education (and crew education). One of the aspects we discuss from time to time is sun exposure. Some wood species turn different shades more than others over the years. This can make it difficult to match older cabinetry of some species like Cherry or Walnut. Here are a couple of visible examples we have seen even in our shop:

1) We left a piece of Cherry leaning up against a cabinet for a few months. The part of the Cherry that was taller than the countertop faced the nearby window. We can see quite clearly how this Cherry (milled and finished in February) has changed color drastically over a few short months.

2) We finished a Walnut cabinet in a clear lacquer 15 years ago and left in near the same window mentioned above. Recently, we milled up fresh Walnut and finished it in the same clear lacquer. The color difference can be quite surprising.

Moral of the story: some species are more sensitive to light that others. Moreover, some species turn a richer, darker color while others bleach.
