In 2024 and 2025, I was awarded the recognition of being one of the best furniture companies in all McHenry County, according to a voting contest called The Best of Fox. It is held by Shaw media, the newspaper company.

The purpose of this contest is for the community to vote for the best businesses in each category. You don’t have to live in McHenry County to vote.

This contest will be starting on June 8th and will be going till July 5th. I would appreciate everyone’s vote. I will post a link on June 8th for everyone to vote.

I look forward to and appreciate your support.

This job just sold this morning. It is a reupholstery of both benches, along with the bases being re-glued/refinished and one spindle being repaired from it being snapped off.

Just went to go look at this job in Fox Lake. A complete strip and refinish job on this desk. It appears to be all walnut burl, except for the back looks to be walnut.

Today was a day for estimates. If you are looking to have something done woodworking related, please reach out to me through messenger or on my cell phone at 847-366-8191.

The first estimate was because the customer has finish deterioration going on behind the handle of the cabinet doors. This happens because of the oil in peoples skin and fingernails. I wanted to see how bad it is to see if it’s something I can cosmetically fix or not, but unfortunately, the finish is literally peeling away and if I try to do just that area, it’s going to stand out like a sore of thumb. Also, using aerosols will not give me the finish thickness I need to match the rest of the door. Another challenging part about that job is, the cabinets are natural cherry and cherry darkens with age, so if I go to fix the areas behind the handles, I will need to sand it down to the raw and then that one spot will be lighter than the rest of the door. I can chemically alter it, but it won’t change color at the same rate as the rest of the door and therefore would end up sticking out like a sore thumb at some point. Unfortunately, to do things the right way, I would have to strip and refinish all of his kitchen cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Also, the reason for redoing everything is because the shine level of a pre-catalyzed lacquer in a dull/matte sheen is shinier than what he has now, so the only way to get a lower level Sheen is to use urethane and then it becomes more expensive. Another negative to doing just the area is, I don’t know how long that would even last him before it would end up looking the same way it does now and then he would have spent his money for me to do a Temporary Band-Aid for it to come back again and then he has to invest the money to strip them all and redo it at that time.

The next customer was looking for a custom walnut vanity to be made. They are also looking to have the MCM dining room table refinished.

The last estimate of the day was doing a kitchen modification and changing it from a hood to a microwave above the range and also where the built-in microwave is at now, making that a regular cabinet. Both of these areas are not straightforward and could involve uninstalling some of the cabinetry to reinstall it level and plumb. In addition to all of that, the crown molding has to be redone as well.

As I explain to everyone at estimates, I don’t do just OK work. Things we need to be done the right way. 😁

I am always an advocate for DIY, but there comes a point when people need to accept it is beyond their skill set and need to hire a professional.

I just left a customer’s house in McHenry where the customer tried to install the bedroom/bathroom doors himself and found out very quickly it is not as easy as people think it is, especially when he tried to do Door only.

They are going to paint everything themselves, but are looking for me to do just the installation of several bifold and several bedroom/bathroom doors.

As you guys and gals have learned about me, I am very honest and direct, along with my personality not being for everyone when it comes to business, because I will never lie and deceive people.

I told them very honestly, you could hire a handyman and or a carpenter to do this for less money than me, but the quality of the work I do is much higher than either and or a combined skill set of both. They understood and still want me to provide them a cost. To some people, quality and value is more important than the bottom line, as it should be. A cheap cost does not mean you got a deal and in most cases, it will cost you more money for a real professional to fix the inferior work.

ANNOUNCEMENT!

Regarding the major interior door change out for my Del Web customer, where I changed out 22 interior bedroom/bathroom pre-hung doors, all the base and shoe throughout the entire house, plus stripping and refinishing all the kitchen cabinet and vanity doors and drawer fronts, changing out the drawer slides and hinges to soft close, is now complete!!!

I will be back on Sunday to put doorstops on and minor do-dads.

Next up for this customer, but she understands it’s going to be a wait….. add pullout drawers to all the base cabinets. Not quite sure if she wants to do the vanities just yet. The vanities are the last two pictures

I will be taking out the center stile and making one or two big pullouts in each cabinet. When I cut off the center stile, I will be attaching it back to the door to cover up the gap, which is now taken up by the face frame.

With the customers permission, I will be doing a live video and pictures on Sunday to show this massive project, so be sure to stay tuned!

I brought the other mock up to the customers house this morning and it was unanimously deciding that a bit smaller crown and bit smaller beam would be more appropriate for the room size. I have a new mock up, which I have pictured below. This is a mock up of 1/4 of the center box for the Cary customer’s beam ceiling. You won’t see the staples in the miter. I only did that because it’s a mockup. I will use hidden fasteners when I actually make the center.

The raw edges will be edge banded in Oak veneer

The first picture is before and the next two pictures are the after. The after pictures I just sprayed topcoat on, so it is still shiny but it’s going to dull down to a matte sheen

Notice how even and consistent the coloring is in the after pictures. That is ALL because of dye. I had to shade one side of the table and leaf to match the other main side and then spray dye over the whole top to the color sample.

This is my high-end urethane, that is super moisture resistant. There is a very high likelihood she will never need to refinish this again, as long as she follows my care instructions.

The second picture versus the third final pictures look lighter/darker and that is totally because of the angle the picture was taken at.

The last picture is after the finish has dried to a matte sheen.

Just met with a Cary customer to talk about a box beam ceiling, with crown in each box and decorative wall moldings/wainscotting without the chair rail. (Molding to go below the current chair rail), but will be removed and room painted as well.

The pine molding will go away and it will now become red oak. The base and shoe will also be changed out for Oak as well to match the floor. Because the flooring has bleached out over time, I’m probably going to have to add dye to the mixture, to color match it closer to the floor.

The wallpaper will be removed also.

Lastly, we may be changing out the French door to the room as well
