Caregivers and disabled people have been left to hack their way through a world indifferent—if not outright hostile—to their actual needs and desires.

Dear blessed creator, dear mother, dear savior
Dear father, dear brother, dear holy other
Dear sibling, dear baby, dear patiently waiting
Dear sad & confused, dear stuck & abused
Dear end of your rope, dear worn out & broke
Dear go it alone, dear running from home
Dear righteously angry, forsaken by family
Dear jaded & quiet, dear tough & defiant
I pray that I'm heard.
And I pray that this works.
I pray if a prayer has been used as a sword,
Against you & your heart,
Against you & your word
I pray that this prayer is a plowshare of sorts,
That it might break you open,
It might help you grow.
I pray that your body gets all that it needs
And if you don't want healing,
I just pray for peace.
I pray that your burden gets lighter each day.
I pray the mean voice in your head goes away.

If your IHSS worker has been told they cannot park on site, but must park on Carmel Valley Road while they are there providing services to you, please contact me. Message me, or text 831-747-0781. Friends of Rippling River is communicating with the Social Services Dept., the CA Highway Patrol, and the Area Agency on Aging to see if we can get this practice stopped. Workers bringing you aide and comfort should not be “kicked to the curb”!

Firewise Defensible Space Homeowners' Bootcamp
Join us on June 12, at the Carmel Valley Village Fire House, 26 Via Contenta for a 90-minute session that will include information, demonstrations, and prize drawings. Due to COVID restrictions, attendees are asked to pre-register at www.roblesfirewise.com. We are offering three “platoon” times: 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., 12:30-2:00 p.m. and 2:30-4:00 p.m. Tickets are free with a suggested $15 donation to cover the costs of the event; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

The event will highlight a new defensible zone — the Immediate Zone, otherwise known as the Ember-Resistant Zone — which is from 0-5 feet from a house or structure. Two companies that specialize in home hardening will present tips and strategies that homeowners can immediately utilize to harden their homes, and a burn trailer will demonstrate the vulnerability of common attic/soffit/foundation vents. Relevant agencies and organizations will be onsite including:

The community's generous donations allowed the Angel Project to also deliver Christmas Eve treat bags to each Rippling River resident, as well as gift each person there with a $20 Safeway gift card.

Dear Residents, be prepared to evacuate if necessary. Get your emergency needs at hand, medications, etc., and check in on your neighbors who may be mobility impaired. The Sheriff’s office has you on the radar due to the Cachagua fire. They will help to be sure everyone gets out safely if necessary, but be ready.
