Cherry Blossom Forge

Cherry Blossom Forge Damascus Billets, Blades, Bronze Castings I had an epiphany! I mean a real life changing, mind blowing moment. Then it hit me. I am seeing a common theme here too.

I was thinking about content for the Cherry Blossom Forge page and videos. I have also been pounding my head, like many of us do, over a business for longer than is physically healthy. We don’t have any trade schools anymore, which is why trade skill videos on YouTube are so popular. No one is teaching in the public schools anymore. I mean, the kids are lucky to come out of high school with the ab

ility to read and do basic math these days. One of the things I remember from my youth was that there was an Industrial center in town where people who did not have the facilities to tackle big one-off projects could go to learn and to create. It was a community thing, a gathering place for all kinds of activities and gatherings. This is the direction I want to go with this project. I want to be able to build a shop that I can open to the public. I want people to come here and get their hands dirty. I am going to build a new forge, so I need a structure to house it, which means I need a space to do large scale wood working, which means... you see where this is going? This is going to be much more than just a forge. It is also going to be a crafts foundry with kilns. I know more than a few pottery heads around here, and they are already pestering me about what type of kiln I am going to be building. All these people live in a neighborhood where they are not allowed to build this type of stuff. Could you imagine what the yard Nazis (Home Owners Association) would say if you built a forge in your back yard? Luckily, I live on 8 acres tucked back in the woods, which is also very close to a few large neighborhoods. I am thinking I am going to need a very large space that will last, so why not a post and beam barn. IF you are going to go that route then it might as well be a big barn so I can put all the equipment I already have in it. So, a full cabinet shop, and a full machine shop. That is 10,000 square feet right there. Are you getting to where I am yet? To all of this I am going to add a forge and a foundry. I am going to be making blades and I do have over 40 years in the martial arts so a dojo would be nice somewhere in all this. A deck to hang out on and blow off some steam would be great too because if you are going to have a lot of people around then why not make it big enough to hold an event. Give the local bluegrass guys and gals a place to practice and perform. If you are going to have that many people around, then they are going to get thirsty. I love craft beers and have quite a few recipes that I would love to show everyone how to make. So might as well have a small brewery too. All this is pointing right at the same thing. A great big ol’ tobacco barn that is designed and laid out to be more community learning center than tool shed. It would be a shame if everyone helped me build this and then I didn’t open it up for everyone to enjoy. The whole idea is to share and give back to the community, right? So let’s do this! First: I need 100 subscribers to get a custom URL for my YouTube channel. Please share this link. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv1OIQQjnrDt3E4FrEMq1Ug

The one thing I hear other YouTubers complain about is the time they have to spend editing the videos to ensure great content. Therefore I am going to ensure that all the equipment I start out with is of good quality and is more than capable of scaling with me. Most of all it must make the entire process fast and efficient. You are never going to hear me complain about not getting enough sleep because I was up all night editing videos.

OK... I'm thinking Alienware.

06/16/2017

Ok, enough of this BS... I'm buying a laptop that will run the living crap out of Adobe Premiere Pro and we are going to put all that other garbage behind us. I'm thinking Alienware. Any suggestions?

ok... I officially hate computers.

One of the many clips I made while filming the cherry blossoms this year. I am still trying to get adobe to work with no help from any of the so called tech support groups from AMD or Adobe. They just keep telling me that it's the other guys fault. The childish finger pointing is quite hilarious actually, but still pathetic.

So, while on this journey to get a copy of Adobe CS6 Premiere Pro up and running I have crashed my PC dozens of times. At least. I have removed, installed, updated, restored, rewound, rebuilt, rinsed and repeated. I am almost ready to start ripping my hair out at the roots. So in a measure to prevent that from actually happening, I got a haircut.

A really short haircut.

But I have not given up hope as I await a response from AMD Tech support as to what the hell is going on here. I can't wait to see what they say about it. AND since computers are only as smart as the people who program them, this ought to be good.

One thing is for sure. I am not, I repeat, NOT the only person who has had this issue since 2009. You would have thought someone would have fixed it by now.

04/09/2017

Well, lets see... Between the Premier Pro not launching and the Radeon Video card driver update that keeps crashing crashing my PC, It looks like I will be running the "let's see if I can fix it" rat maze this weekend instead of getting the video actually edited.

Last day of filming the cherry blossoms. I am really excited to see the footage. Into Aftereffects for some touch ups and hopefully posted by this weekend.

So, after doing some very serious research, I have decided that $61,000.00 for a portable hydraulic bandsaw mill is ridiculous. I will be building my own and it will have all of the features that I want instead of what they'll offer me for the small price of a few appendages.

36" width cut is not going to cut it for me so I'll be making mine 48" which should be more than enough. 30" wheels with 1-1/2" blade. remote controls, heavy duty log turner, hydraulic dogs, levelers, squaring braces, super heavy loader, you name it and this saw is going to have it. Plus a fine Perkins diesel engine with tons of power.

I am building a new shop, and as I have already discussed I am going to build in Post and Beam. We have White Oak here in Southern Maryland like the south has Pine. I am going to need a tractor so that is on the shopping list for this fall as well. Something like a 2009 John Deere 4720 with a 66 hp engine and a few attachment for the frontier(a grappler is first on my list).

I have to get the Stihl 460 magnum chainsaw tuned and ready for action. I had a bad accident a few years back when a neighbor was using his saw to cut a tree that was leaning over the road. I told him not to touch anything because it was ready to fall. But that must mean, go up to the worst possible place you can cut and have at it, where he is from.

After 2 years in a bed with a back broken in 4 places, I have decided it is way past due I have some catching up to do. It's been 4 years and I am all healed up now, but as anyone will tell who has been in a very bad accident and needed time to heal, your entire life falls apart. The worst part is not being able to do anything about it too.

Which is the main reason you will be seeing me working the trees and logs by myself. After what I have been through I just don't trust anyone around me working with heavy objects anymore. Especially when chainsaws are involved.
