Furniture Grade Pine comparison to Basic Pine.

Picture on left is Furniture Grade Pine
Furniture Grade Pine has been kiln dried longer and will have a much lesser moisture density.
The benefits to the lesser moisture density is that we can confidently join the boards for a continuous smooth Tabletop(no grooves). They are joined with wooden biscuits and glued.

Picture on right is with Basic Pine
Basic Pine has been kiln dried some but not to the degree of Furniture Grade Pine.
It has a higher moisture density.
With that higher moisture density the wood will naturally over time dry more. When it is going through this drying process it can continue to shrink or expand. If we were to glue this tabletop there stands a risk of it cracking/separating and the odds are it would not crack where the boards join, but in the middle of the board. So when building a Basic Pine Top we use pocket holes and screws.

Each Table with either wood makes for an extremely sturdy well built and lasting Table. It all depends on what you are wanting.

Something to think about when deciding on a Table Style.

For example if you want to seat 8 comfortably.

A Trestle Table like the the 1st Table pictured the size could be 7’ x 40”.

Where a Traditional Table with 4 legs would need to be 8’ x 40”.

Just something to keep in mind as you take into account the size of your space and need.
