Skram Furniture Company

Skram Furniture Company Skram was founded in 2001 in the Piedmont region of NC. In recent years this changed. Tens of thousands of jobs were eliminated.

The company has earned a domestic and international following for its distinct approach to modern design. The area where Skram is located, the Piedmont region of North Carolina, has for decades been a hub of furniture manufacturing. Hundreds of furniture companies and ancillary firms closed or relocated overseas. Skram’s rise in the midst of this decline is no accident--it is the result of a model

of manufacturing that achieves sustainable growth through the creation of objects of enduring value and sound design. Skram’s approach to manufacturing is rooted in the belief that the objects produced by a society are a reflection of the character and priorities of that society. The company seeks to promote an interpretation of sustainability that directly impacts not only what is produced, but also the mode of production. Thus, Skram furniture brings the artisan back to the factory, producing objects on a scale that permits the fulfillment of volume orders without sacrificing the attention to detail expected by its customers. Quality, durability, restraint, utility—Skram furniture is a reflection of these resurgent American ideals. Leading by example, the company embodies an ethic that merges innovative, useful design with meticulous workmanship and an encompassing view of sustainability.

Sustainable by design | Sustainable by nature

Introducing CORKBOWL no. 2. Available in 4 sizes/shapes, our newest tabletop accessories are one of our favorites here at Skram. Made entirely of timber and cork offcuts from larger Skram projects, these products are part of our Waste Mitigation Program, where we create beautiful objects from material that previously would have been considered waste.

Beyond this… cork is harvested sustainably from the bark of a cork oak tree, without cutting down or harming the tree, allowing the bark to regenerate naturally over time. CORKBOWL no. 2 yields a double dose of sustainability.

Stay tuned for more sizes to come!

Eyes on every detail, one last time.

Inside SKRAM footage of final QC followed by a quick photoshoot of a PlainJane Bureau in ebonized Ash.

Realtime QC happens at every stage, but all SKRAM products undergo a rigorous final exam with documentation right before packaging and crating. This is the part where we slow down, take a breath, and make sure every detail and every aspect of the product align with our standards and tolerances.

One of the more complex residential customizations we’ve executed recently. This sit-stand desk has pushed our engineering skills to the limit. While simple in finished appearance, the desk has insane hidden structure, required to maintain relationships in the various modes without deflection. Concealed connectivity modules needed to be powered without cords binding during motion, requiring a system of retractable pulleys to take up the extra cord length, unseen, within the desk. Glad this one is complete and looking forward to seeing it installed.

ENO tables in maple timber. We do a subtle bleaching effect with our maple finish to preserve and emphasize the bone/driftwood look of this great material.

Hi. Today is launch day for ENO, our new little accent tables. This is one of my favorite design typologies. The brief was incredibly simple:
1. It should be entirely solid timber construction.
2. It should have great stability and durability so that it could function equally well in a home or a lobby.
3. It should be a great price.
4. It should be compelling but accessible, visually. (It should ‘make sense’ to everyone at a glance but maybe have a few little secrets to give away at further study).

Anyhow, here’s ENO. There’s a lookbook that we’ll link to in bio if you want to see some nice contextual images. They’re also in stock right now so you can also buy them in all 5 timber options and both heights if you go to our quickship page. Thanks!
