⛈🌪️ May is Hurricane Preparedness Month 🌪️⛈
At SERVPRO of Brazos Valley, we’re taking this month to ensure we’re fully prepared to respond when disaster strikes. Hurricane Preparedness Month is a time to focus on readiness, planning, and strengthening our ability to serve our community when it matters most.
We are committed to staying aligned with SERVPRO’s Disaster Response Program, utilizing the latest tools, training, and best practices to ensure we can respond quickly and effectively.
Here are 9 steps YOU can take for huricane preparedness:
1. Create an Emergency Plan 🏡
Know where you’ll go if evacuation is needed and how you’ll communicate with family members.
2. Build an Emergency Kit 🎒
Include water, non-perishable food (3–7 days), flashlights, batteries, medications, phone chargers, and important documents.
3. Protect Your Home 🔨
Secure outdoor furniture and loose items
Install storm shutters or board up windows
Reinforce garage doors if possible
4. Check Your Insurance 📄
Review your policy to understand what’s covered (especially flood damage).
5. Prepare for Power Outages 🔌
Have backup batteries, portable chargers, and consider a generator if appropriate.
6. Clear Gutters & Drains 🌧️
Ensure proper drainage to reduce risk of flooding around your home.
7. Trim Trees & Branches 🌳
Reduce the chance of limbs damaging your home during high winds.
8. Know How to Shut Off Utilities 🚰⚡
Be ready to turn off water, gas, and electricity if instructed.
9. Stay Informed 📱
Monitor local weather updates and follow evacuation orders if given.
Being prepared means being ready to mobilize, support, and restore — no matter the scale of the event.
When severe weather hits, you can count on SERVPRO of Brazos Valley to be ready to serve you. 🧡💚
