TReed Customs Custom guitars and woodworking Since then, business has expanded to include custom crafts like, shelving, tables, humidors, archery bows, and pens.

Started in early 2012 to build custom guitars for those who want to have a completely unique guitar built to their preferences instead of just a run of the mill Strats and Gibsons.

Lots of cutting cedars on the land today. Gotta release all my live oaks and mountain laurels that are buried in there!

It's been a while since I've turned, or posted on IG for that matter. The profile matching on this set isn't perfect, but they're close, mostly because I kept making accidental changes to the profile on one leg compared to the previous (yeah I took off too much 😬) Every time I come back to turning I learn a little more, especially on bevel riding. Hope y'all enjoy

Finally finished. It took over 2 months to get this thing done between flying trips and the Texas snowmageddon.

Solid cherry carcass and trim and ebonized oak plywood with a mix of Japanese and contemporary inspiration. Finished with a base of tung oil and topped with General Finishes water based polyurethane.

It was built with dados, stopped half laps, and pocket hole joinery so that it can be disassembled whenever we decide to move from this house.

Hope y'all enjoy it as much as I do.

Finishing is done, now I just need to put it together.

By far the largest and most complicated finishing project I've ever attempted

A bit of a process to get the black oak I was going for. Tannic acid (from quebracho tea), followed by iron acetate, followed by black, fand finally super thinned tung oil. I could have just stained or just ebonized, but neither gave me quite the result I wanted. Ebonizing alone left a bit of brown in the wood and didn't get full into the pores, but because it is a chemical reaction, it penetrates the top layer a decent amount. Staining gave me the black I was looking for, but couldn't withstand any sanding since it's just at the top level. Combine them both with a bit of wet sanding with tung oil to really fill the grain and even out the texture and I got exactly the look I wanted. Involved, yes, but worth it.
